If only ever wondered...who was Cain’s wife? Adam and Eve had other children but surely if one was a daughter, she could not (or should not) have been Cain’s wife. Was there another Garden somewhere?
“Adam and Eve had other children but surely if one was a daughter, she could not (or should not) have been Cains wife.”
Why not?
You ask the same question I have been asking all my life! No one comes up with a satisfactory answer. Another question I ask is how could the earth be created before the rest of the universe when it is billions of years younger, 10,000 years old according to a lot of people. Or how the sun stood still - and actually backed up! That’s why I have given up on religion. I just believe in who Washington described as Providence - The Creator. That’s why I consider myself a Diest and reject revealed religion.
Adam lived over 900 years, they had a lot of children.
There has been a lot of study on these subjects. Check out some of the books by Henry M. Morris (both father and son).
“surely if one was a daughter, she could not (or should not) have been Cains wife”
Well, there were no laws against incest at that time so it wouldn’t be a case of “could not”. “Should not” is a different matter, but if there were no other option but to marry a sister or let the human race die out, well, what you “should” do may differ from what we think today.
Cain’s wife was a female of the nearly human species who preceded Adam and Eve. Over thousands of generations the predecessors were bred out of existence yet continued in the fabric of humanity.
IIRC, there are tiny fragments of Neanderthal DNA remaining in a percentage of Europeans and west Asians. That can be identified because some Neanderthals were alive recently enough that some DNA is retrievable. But the out-of-Africa predecessors were so long ago that we don’t have samples for comparison. Or maybe we just haven’t found the most recent yet, Cain’s wife for example.
Just guessing, of course. I believe that God made us from the mud of the Earth. That symbolizes the elements of which we consist. How long He took and the steps He took are the question, and when we get to see Him He will probably tell us. A day with God is as a thousand years...and that was written for folks to whom millions or billions would have been meaningless.
