President Donald Trump still has vocal Republican detractors. But they are laboring under two problems. The first, which has received a lot of attention, is that there arent a lot of them. In the latest Gallup poll, Trump has the approval of 82 percent of Republicans.
The second, which has received less attention, is that this minority of Republicans is divided.
Its divided on policy issues. Bret Stephens, Max Boot and Charles Sykes are all right-of-center commentators who want Republicans to dump Trump. But they also want gun control, sometimes of a sweeping nature. Other frequent Trump critics on the right, such as Erick Erickson and David French, want no part of that agenda.
Immigration is another dividing line. Jennifer Rubin says that calls to reduce low-skilled immigration are bigoted and demagogic. Fellow anti-Trump columnist Ross Douthat leans to the other side. Rubin is a sharp critic of the congressional Republican tax bill. The Weekly Standard, which has an anti-Trump editorial line, lauds that bill.
Or take health care. Senator Mike Lee of Utah, who refused to endorse Trump, was wary of the main Republican bills because they did not go far enough in repealing Obamacare. Governor John Kasich of Ohio, another non-endorser, opposed them because they went too far in repealing it.
Should Republicans moderate on social issues? Embrace a more populist message on economics? Reject nationalism or try to ennoble it? Youll find conservative anti-Trumpers on both sides of each question. Republicans who generally oppose Trump dont even agree on what to call themselves. Many of the people who embraced the Twitter hashtag #NeverTrump last year think the term is obsolete, since it referred to never voting for him and the election is over.

Whither Egg McMuffin and Milt?
Here is a NeverTrumper whose NeverTrumperism made him incapable of distinguishing between a pro-life candidate and a pedophile Satanist abortionist. He should never be allowed to live down this display of spiritual/moral blindness.
They could cost TRUMP the Presidency if they continue to vote for a 3rd Party!!!
“Republicans who generally oppose Trump dont even agree on what to call themselves.”
Well, well... good for them.
On the other hand, I call every NeverTrumper that I personally know an “absolute unreasonable asshole”.
They Wish ,,the harder they push ,, the harder we push back . I hope Moore wins just to show them what real unity looks like . If he’s proven guilty of a crime by a court then dismiss him and let law deal with him and not a pre-trial judgment of a leftest lynch mob .
How about just holding your nose and working with Trump to adopt conservative legislation and policies for the good of the nation?
Oh, please!
And he mentions Jennifer Rubin, too!
The neo”conservative” con job is over, over, over.
The article is misleading. Many, probably the vast majority, of Conservatives and Republicans who disagree with Trump on one or two issues still enthusiastically support him. I have yet to meet an open borders/free trade Conservative like myself who is not a Trump supporter.
If Trump continues to drain the swamp for the next years like he has so far, that alone earns my total support. I only wish he would appoint more agency heads and cabinet officials competent to do it.
For most who voted for Trump as the lesser of two evils, if Trump continues to nominate judges and justices as he has so far, that alone earns their total support. They only wish he would move faster with the appointments.
All of us blame Congress, especially the Senate, for the slow pace so far. Trump should appoint McConnell to the great honor of ambassador to Antartica and give him a big going-away party.
Those who voted for Trump as the lesser of two evils really feared the worst. They are pleasantly surprised that so far, he has been better than any president since Reagan.
There has been a 30 year bipartisan plan to steal the country from the citizens by importing foreigners.
They are trying to make sure we are not allowed to elect anyone else who sides with the citizens and the rule of law again.
We stunned them throwing out their Majority Leader, Eric Cantor.
Trump had the wealth and fame to punch through the Bush blockade at the RNC.
They will make sure that mistake does not happen again.
Its all about cementing the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA) in place.
They desperately do not want US to be able to restore the rule of law and reverse the demographic changes they have instituted through non-enforcement of laws and borders.
They invited 30 million people here to change the country against the will of the citizens and they do not want US sending them home.
They will do whatever it takes to keep US from electing anyone who sides with the citizens and the rule of law.
What they really dont want is for US to keep our country.
The final amnesty that would cement the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA) into place has been sought repeatedly since 2006. They sold us Rubio to get the last one in 2013.
We have been prevented from electing anyone who would side with US and the rule of law by their control of the RNC and state parties.
The most important thing to the Uniparty is protecting the demographic changes they have made to the country against the will of the citizens.
Thats what drives the NeverTrump, the media and the Democrats hatred of Trump, it is an extension of their hatred of US.

Basically there are two groups of NeverTrumpers. Neocons and wimpy Evangelical types who are close to neocons politically.
