A group of prominent U.S. senators is coming to the defense of a highly decorated Air Force colonel who could be booted out of the military over his religious views on same-sex marriage.
Col. Leland Bohannon, an experienced combat pilot, was suspended from command and orders were handed down recommending he not be promoted after he refused to publicly affirm the same-sex spouse of a retiring subordinate.
Bohannon, who was on the verge of being promoted to a one-star general, was punished after the subordinate filed a formal Equal Opportunity complaint which was later substantiated by investigators.
His career is likely over and he will likely have to retire as a colonel instead of as a general, First Liberty Institute attorney Michael Berry said on the Todd Starnes Show.
First Liberty Institute, one of the nations most prominent religious liberty law firms, is representing the distinguished military officer.
The military is no longer a place of diversity and inclusion if you are a person who holds to a traditional belief in marriage, Berry said.
At least eight Republican U.S. senators including Sens. Roy Blunt of Missouri, James Inhofe of Oklahoma, John Kennedy of Louisiana, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Mike Lee of Utah, Marco Rubio of Florida, Roger Wicker of Mississippi and Ted Cruz of Texas wrote a letter to Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson urging her to intervene and save the colonels career.

So you have to be in favor of homosexual marriage, publicly affirm same, otherwise you will be sanctioned? That’s how it is legally speaking nowadays? In all areas of life, from baking cakes to Air Force personnel matters which have nothing to do with homosexuality?
Funny I dont see liver spotted McStain in this list
Trump should award him the star himself. Then add another two, watch who complains, and fire them all.

A day doesn’t go by without another example of the PC rot in the upper echelons of the military.
And China and Iran are watching.
Bump
Violation of his First Amendment rights.
Because they can...
typical Air Force...
for the Air Force homosexuals and “transgenders” are the next black...
entitled...special class...
everyone else are lying or bigoted etc...bad people ...
You know it’s bad when GOP senators are the sane ones. LOL.
I see no evidence the careerist ticket punching military is interested in doing the heavy lifting required to roll back malignant PC. Like the corporate world they have totally surrendered to the progressive agenda. Even after the kenyan denigrated and eviscerated the military for 8 years!
The top Air Force brass needs to be courtmartialed for their treatment of Col. Leland Bohannon. The Secretary of the Air Force needs to resign.
Thanks for posting this. It is a travesty.
All previously held rights are now subservient to the false god of Political Correctness.
Gone is the rule of law, replaced by the rule of offended parties.
So here’s my question: what did he have to acknowledge? What did he have to say? It doesn’t seem clear what the line is in today’s world.
Remember how we were told over and over that gay marriage would have no effect on non-homosexuals? Well that didn’t last. Now you must publicly support and promote it, or be punished.
Placemark.
It would take Trump about two seconds to find out who is threatening Bohannon and who is behind those orders. Those people should be out of a job tomorrow morning.
This type of persecution occurred in the old Soviet Union. You went against the State and you lost your job and you would never work again. Families who depended on them would have to seek help from family and friends.
I know a friend who got out of the Ukraine with his wife, with $100 sewed into his pants. Luckily, he had a skill that could be employable anywhere in the world. He chose the United States because it was the most free. Now he says the United States is moving towards the old Soviet Union.
I hope President Trump takes notice of this and takes action.
It wasn't directed to the retiree, so it's not EEO.
The guy was retiring, so it's not EEO.
It was non-affirming the guy's spouse, so it's not EEO.
If the person was still on the job and was treated poorly because of the same sex spouse -- that would be EEO.
