Another conservative leads Kansas governor race after crisis

If you thought Kansas emerged from its long budget crisis to reject deep-red politics and move back toward the center, think again.

A year ago, many voters concluded that Republican Gov. Sam Brownback’s experiment in cutting income taxes had ended in failure, opening the door to a more moderate agenda. But now an even more aggressively conservative figure could win next year’s race for governor.

Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a Harvard-, Yale- and Oxford-educated lawyer, leads a large field of likely candidates after building a national reputation as hardline provocateur on immigration and voter ID laws. His visibility rose sharply after President Donald Trump appointed him to help lead a commission on election fraud.

“People know who I am,” he declared during a recent interview. “I don’t have to spend a lot of time and money explaining what my position is or what my brand is.”

Although the election is still a year away, Kobach’s many critics wonder whether he can be stopped, citing his political skills, his name recognition and his loyal base of supporters.

It’s a remarkable scenario for a state supposedly weary of ideological drama. Until recently, many observers were betting that Kansas would seek moderation — not the most explosive conservative option available.

Never underestimate the Kansas GOP's ability to screw itself over.

Kris Kobach has been fighting against illegal immigration in our state before it was cool.

Ruffled too many illegal loving feathers here.

Just checked a map...Yep! Seattle is a long, long way from Kansas. However, it sounds as if the WA commies are afraid that the adherence to what they consider Constitutional “nonsense” may leak across their border...

Kris Kobach is anything but an “ivy league” stooge!

Kris grew up in a very “medium” middle class guy - prolife, pro traditional marriage, anti-gay agenda, pro America, anti-illegal alien, born again Christian conservative!

I’ve known him and his family for decades and though you don’t know me, I was an early supporter of the “minute men,” guarding our southern borders, and attended and held meetings of their group, just for starters!

Kris IS the real deal and was one of the authors of the Arizona bill to stop incursions of their southern border.

He has also been instrumental almost singlehandedly pushing for photo ID in voting in the state of KS and many other states!!

We we’re thinking Trump might name him as head of his Homeland Security Dept. or even a second choice for Attorney General and was a Trump advisor on all things Immigration as well as a close friend and supporter of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who visited KS to support him as Kris ran for KS Sec. of State!

I sincerely hope you are right. The overwhelming evidence says that you aren’t. A large part of Congress and the .gov workers are Ivy league and many of those are lawyers. See my point?

Oh, I definitely do know completely what you say.

I do know that Kris was very highly thought of and served in the John Ashcroft Justice Dept. and very highly thought of by Mark Levin.

John Hanna, is a KS based AP reporter, so don’t quite what to think, in that his article is carried by the Seattle Red Times!
