Chris Christie Would Have Made A Better Attorney General Than Jeff Sessions
nj.com ^ | Nov 16, 2017 | Paul Mulshine

Chris Christie refrained from saying "I told you so" when he introduced Ivanka Trump at an appearance earlier this week.

He had every right to, especially when it comes to the recent developments concerning his old rival Jeff Sessions.

During the presidential campaign last year, the governor of New Jersey and the then-Senator from Alabama were among the first Republicans to back Donald Trump who said Christie would make "a great attorney general".

Christie lost out to Sessions, who has spent the past year trying to win a place among the worst cabinet picks ever.

Sessions hadn't made it through his confirmation hearing before he made the second biggest mistake in recent political history when he assured Democratic Sen. Al Franken of Minnesota that he had had no contact with Russians during the campaign.

Franken hadn't asked him whether he had any such contacts, but Sessions offered that information anyway. When it later surfaced that Sessions had had a couple of perfunctory meetings with the Russian ambassador, Sessions went to make the biggest mistake in recent political history, recusing himself and letting a special prosecutor take over the probe.

Trump was livid over that dumb move. But it was the Donald's own dumb move that led to the debacle now dominating the headlines.

That move was to name a sitting senator to his cabinet. That put Sessions' safe seat up for grabs. Now it looks like the Democrats might grab it, cutting the GOP margin to a razor-thin 51-49.

That's because of allegations that the GOP nominee, Roy Moore, sexually harassed some teenaged women 40 years ago.

Sessions has come out against Moore, saying "I have no reason to doubt these young women."

And I have no reason to doubt Sessions should have stayed in the Senate.

“I love all the certainty about Sessions. We finally have an attorney general who isn’t a grandstanding, corrupt, buffoon like Holder, yet conservatives refuse to be patient and give him time to work.”

While I agree Christie would be a bad choice, too, at least he would have done SOMETHING. ANYTHING!

One year in, and despite the multiple obvious crimes committed by Clinto to Holder and everyone in between, there has been NOTHING. How much time do you need? You’ve only got a few years in office.

I just don’t understand the misguided fajth in this do-nothing boob.

Ridiculous. Do you want to see real justice or do you want to see someone crowing before the cameras? You have NO idea what he has done or might be doing and that is how it should be.

I have a clue as to what he is doing in public and on that basis alone, he is a gutless worm.

This fat cristy lost my respect when he spent $175,000 in an attack ad against conservative Tom Tancredo in the Colorado gubernatorial election. Don't think much of his brand of politics.

Sessions is a threat to Trump and the Republic.

Well, if you are happy with a guy who will sit on his heels for 4 years, and allow a special prosecutor (that was appointed due to his negligence) to systematically abuse and intimidate anyone who supports Trump.....you’ve got the right guy.

Tell me, why are YOU so interested in seeing a one-term Trump presidency?

We couldn’t disagree more. I despise the politicization of the attorney general’s office. For far too long we’ve had politically motivated public grandstanding instead of real justice.

At this point, I think you could say that about any name you choose. Trump should know better than to put a Senator in any executive position. They’re just the wrong breed for that line of work.

What are you talking about? Why the hyperbole? He’s been in his position for less than year. I want the same thing everyone else here does. I’m merely saying give him time to work. President Trump can fire him at any time so as of now I must presume he’s doing his job. I trust Trump more than most here seem to trust him. Many apparently believe the President can’t handle the swamp.

Everybody is an expert on what is going on, based off what facts of what is actuality happening? The fact that nobody is tweeking their twitter feeds with the inside info?

We, the public, have been so used to political signalling of what the template directive is for so long that we are no longer able to consider a law enforcement investigation will properly not telegraph anything because the intent is not political, but in fact, precedent for prosecution with an airtight case? But then again, that is just my opinion as with everyone else’s.

How much of the impatience is triggered from our society norms morphing into expecting instant karma?

How much of what we are not seeing is cleaning the decks of DOJ by seeing what and where ‘things’ are leaked to guard against that happening when things are about to bust giving advanced warning to the roaches that the lights are about to be turned on? Remember we learned there are in FACT 27 active investigations into leaking from the hearing this week.

I feel it is of prime importance to consider the cast was set a very long time ago by one known as Craig Livingstone. How many people were marginalized or kept at bay with blackmail threats with those original 900 FBI files that mysteriously found their way into his office in the basement of the Clinton White House?

I will not give them forever and I have no feeling they will. Key word feeling as outside of those of a very small count only know. But if something does not come of it before the primaries start for the mid-terms, then I will release my concerns in check.

You see it as politicization when the AG indicts a former candidate who was Sec of State?

If our Donald replaces Sessions, would the new person have to be confirmed?

Whose orders is Sessions following? A second year law student could of indicted most of Obama’s cabinet by now with the cases the FBI was already slow walking.

Chris Christie was in the doghouse after the election, and I’m not sure we know the whole story (DJT does not throw people under the bus).

Jeff Sessions was owed (something), and, knowing what we know now about the composition of the Senate, he may have been the only confirmable person who had served in an AG role, albeit at the state level.

Your point about waiting until mid term primaries is a good one. I will try to hold my tongue until then, but it is very difficult. As one wag in this thread put it....a 2nd year law student could have had half of Obamas staff in prison by now....just from what we already know.
