Alabama GOP rebuffs pressure to abandon Roy Moore

The Alabama Republican Party is shrugging off pressure from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to disqualify Roy Moore as its nominee for Senate.

Members of the state party’s executive committee met in person and by phone Wednesday to discuss the Alabama Senate race, according to sources familiar with the discussions, but made no move to strip Moore of the nomination.

That leaves McConnell without a clear way to block Moore from winning a Dec. 12 special election without jeopardizing Republican control of the seat and diminishing his Senate majority by one vote. McConnell and other Senate Republicans had pressured the state party to ditch Moore by arguing that he has no chance of winning the race, and even if he does, he faces a Senate Ethics Committee investigation and expulsion vote.

McConnell's pressure tactics fail to move state party.

The state of Alabama will choose its representative, not the U.S. Senate!

Probably the good folks in Alabama know the Judge up close, day to day, year after year and know best.

If he wins, “he faces a Senate Ethics Committee investigation and expulsion vote.”

Is that legal?????

The Senate makes its own rules.

It is legal, but very slimy.

Then get an ethics investigation going against ALLA CRITTERS with these allegations... like those who have used the 15 million dollar (tax dollar) slush fund for paying off accusers.

Really this Moore thing is trash. If it were real, it would be happening all over the place to dozens in Congress. But, it’s not. It’s the swamp trying to take out a threat. Like Chris McDaniel getting trashed to keep potato-for-brains, swamp creature Thad Cochran.... this is just a swamp hit job.

Too early to tell whether enough voters recognize it this time. But I think enough will recognize it. There is ending up enough time to prove the accusations false AND to connect them to the swamp.

I pray ....

You want to investigate a body that exempts itself from Obamacare and insider trading? Might be a tad unrealistic. If Moore wins and is expelled, 2018 will be so much more interesting.

I wish McConnell would fight this hard for Trump’s agenda.

No, I want to point out the inherent contradiction in their position.

If they were to investigate that would be interesting....but they prolly won’t.

Yes. The Senate can expel a member.

Please form an orderly line behind Sen. Frankin.

If they were to do it, they would have to include a few others....and risk a HUGE backlash......

They allowed Kennedy to be seated. If Massachusetts can pick a murderer why can Alabama chose their own representative. Seems to me ,Mac ,Connell and company have some control issues.

The entire “sexual harassment” circus is simply the best tool they could find to impose the establishment’s will on Alabama.

It is a test: Are the people of Alabama sufficiently independent to resist the establisment media and its ongoing onslaught?

I’m betting on YES. We the people in more rural - small town states still have that independent streak!

Alabama will elect Roy Moore and it will not even be close. Everyone in the state knows what is at stake and know Doug Jones is an unrepentant socialist. Roy Moore is a rock solid god-fearing Christian Conservative and it is driving McTurtle and the GOPe cronies nuts.

The only poll that shows Moore trailing is the bogus poll commissioned by Mirtch McConnell himself. Likely Voter polls inside the state show Moore with a 6-12 point lead.

I would not be shocked to see Moore actually win by close to 20% on election day.

From your keyboard to God’s inbox!

I would love to see that! It would send an enormous message to the “progressive” establishment:

“You are not the boss of me!”
