Growing up in New York in the 1980s, comedian Hari Kondabolu was like many young people. He watched The Simpsons and he adored The Simpsons. There was just one thing that bothered him about it.
Amid the fictional Springfield barflies, incompetent doctors, clowns and crazy eggheads was a truly cartoonish character Apu, the Kwik-E-Mart clerk who sold expired food, ripped off customers and delivered the sing-songy slogan Thank you, come again.

That was Bleeding Gums Murphy.
Apu’s probably been around longer than them.
Sheesh ...what a crybaby.
When I was working at Bed Bath and Beyond, The Simpsons had a episode and it showed a gun store called ‘Blood Bath and Beyond ‘We, as someone who is a gun owner and who worked at BB&B, I thought it was funny.
..... Well .... The Way I see it ..... Mr. Hari Kondabolu ..... And all that agree with him ... Have an ABSOLUTE Constitutional right ........ To not watch the Simpsons if they are offended. Heck ..... I’m offended that comedian Hari Kondabolu and Co were offended at the Apu Nahasapeemapetilon’s character. So what should we, as a nation, do about that?
I believe in one song, he was called “Cletus, the slack-jawed yokel” (sp?)
It’s okay to make fun of white men from the south, apparently.
In the words of Lynyrd Skinyrd, “A Southern man don’t need you around, anyhow.”
As an aside, when I was a teen I bought the album with the group with the picture cover featuring the band walking away against a backdrop of a fire before the plane crash that killed some of the band
Oddly enough, we had a fire in our house when I was 18 and I have no idea what happened to it. It would probably be worth good money.

True... They are putting themselves out of a job by becoming too political and alienating half of America. In particular, Colbert and Silverman come across as being angry and nasty. In fact, not even funny anymore.
The only time I sort of liked Silverman was in "School of Rock"...but probably only because Jack Black (love him!) and the guy who played her husband had a great chemistry. Ned, I think was the name of the guy in the movie.
The navigator on The Orville. He is a complete stereotype. When he destroys an enemy ship, he jumps up and says, Yeah! Take that, bitch! When they are undercover on an alien planet, he makes a spectacle of himself by dry humping a statue in public. No other character acts the way he does.
LOL! That is one of the genius parts of the show, to read the signs, etc. The writers are certainly creative. :)
Clearly, the only thing we can do: Cancel all t.v. LOL!
(Hope I don't need a sarc tag! ;))
Over 600 episodes of The Simpsons. They are all stereotypes.
Ban them all! : )
Thank you for reading.
Come again.
Yes, thanks for reminding me. A great episode.
So out of all the stereotypes on that show, he only has a problem with Apu? I don’t think he’s really much of a fan.
There’s nary an animal alive that can outrun a greased Scotsman.
That’s because those so-called “comedians” don’t have a clue about what’s funny...
If these guys had their way all entertainment will consist of slightly tan colored people who never make eye contact and just mumble.
