WASHINGTON President Trump on Tuesday named immigration hardliner Tom Homan, who has served nearly 10 months as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to run ICE on a permanent basis. Homan has run the agency since Obama appointee Sarah Saldaña the former U.S. attorney in Dallas stepped down when Trump took office in January. He has been a public face of the administration's crackdowns on immigrants and border security, a tough talking law enforcement careerist who is unapologetic about being "heartless" when it comes to deporting even the most sympathetic longtime U.S. residents.
"I get asked all the time, 'Why do you arrest somebody that has been here for 10 years, for 15 years in the USA and has kids?,'" he said a month ago at the conservative Heritage Foundation. "If we keep sending this message, 'It's OK to violate the laws of this country and ... not be worried about enforcement,' then we're never going to solve the border crisis.... It's never going to be solved as long as people think they get a free pass."
The White House announced the nomination with no fanfare, in a formal notice that Trump was sending Homan's name to the Senate. The president was flying from Manila to Hawaii on his way back to Washington after a 13-day Asia trip.

Dallas Morning News is straight up Communist.
True, but Tom Homan as ICE Director is good.
Now, if they would only let him do his job.
This is good news. He will be working under the DHS nominee, who has a pro amnesty reputation, so hopefully both follow Trump’s policies. Unless, of course, the Senate approves the pro amnesty nominee and not the law abider.
What’s her name again, the bad one?
Kirsten Nielsen. I looked it up for you, I’m not good at remembering names.
Just last week, a Senate immigration committee put one of Trump's nominees on hold.
The nominee is a woman, and she publicly supports the DACA Amnesty.
Can anyone recall her name or the job she was nominated for?
I thought it was related to Homeland Security, but I can't dig anything up on Google.
Thanks...
Kirstjen Nielsen, Trumps Homeland Security nominee, faces Senate panel vote
She spells her first name “Kirstjen” Nielsen, not “Kirsten.”
Thanks, Rusty.
True test will be how fast he guts the obamsky’s out of the ICE hierarchy and gets on with enforcing the Nation’s immigration laws.
I did spell it right but I didn’t check my auto filler. Thanks. I think she worked under General Kelly for a short time and he recommended her. I’m not sure if she was vetted as to her agreement with the President’s policies.
Thanks. She’s a bad one.
Immigration, specifically LEGAL immigration and foreign work visas, have been my number one issue since 2005.
I voted for Trump in 2016, and I will vote to reelect Trump in 2020, but only because Trump is the most Conservative candidate who has a chance to win.
In my opinion, most of Trump's campaign promises about immigration were always political hot air.
On one hand, I am glad that Trump has cracked down on criminal immigrants, that he has modestly reduced the number of “refugee” immigrants, that he has jawboned a temporary reduction in illegal border crossings, and that he has put mild political pressure on Sanctuary Cities.
On the other hand, I predict that Trump will take no meaningful action against DACA kids and parents before the election, and that Trump will give DACAs some kind of legal status if he is reelected.
Good! Get em outta here!
I agree.
No bias here. Nope, none at all.
