Trump's Chief of Staff on Trump's Tweets: 'They Are What They Are'
PJ Media ^ | 11-13-2017 | Michael van der Galien

Posted on 11/13/2017 9:12:09 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

Several hours after Donald Trump created an international controversy by calling North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un "short and fat" on Twitter, Trump's Chief of Staff John Kelly said he doesn't allow his aides and staffers to react to the president's tweets.

Kelly told a group of reporters in Vietnam:

"Someone, I read the other day, said we all just react to the tweets. We don’t. I don’t. I don’t allow the staff to. We know what we’re doing. Believe it or not, I do not follow the tweets. I find out about them but for our purposes, my purpose, is we make sure the presidents is briefed up on what he's about to do."

"They are what they are," Kelly went on, after which he denied that Trump's tweets have an effect on America's foreign policy. "We develop policy in the normal traditional staff way," he said, not based on the president's angry tweets.

Although the media seem to believe that Trump's tweets have real-world repercussions, Kelly understands that their effect is greatly exaggerated. The fact of the matter is that most countries and foreign leaders act in their own interests. They may not be pleased when Trump insults them on Twitter, but it doesn't influence their foreign policy strategy nor their relationship with the U.S. Their goals remain the same. Perhaps they change their tactics, but they won't alter their end goals.

That's why Kelly's statements to journalists traveling with the president's entourage to Asia make perfect sense...

I'm pretty sure Trump doesn't send "angry" tweets. I think he sends strategic tweets that make others react in ways that he expects and desires. But the journalists can't grasp this.

You are right, he did not actually call him any names. It’s not the same...but his comment reminds me of:

I understand you have taken exception to my calling you whores. I’m sorry. I apologize. I ask you to note that I did not call you callous-ass strumpets, fornicatresses, or low-born gutter sluts. But I did say “whores.” No escaping that. And for that slip of the tongue, I apologize.

-perhaps that will be next :)

It must really irritate the little fat boy that when he shouts at the world everyone goes, "Hmm? Oh yeah, sure. Whatever"!

“Donald Trump created an international controversy by calling North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un ‘short and fat’ on Twitter.”

Kim Jong-Un called Trump “old.”

Trump said he would never call Kim Jong-Un “short and fat.”

Donald Trump is 71. Describing him as “old” is derogatory. He is youthful and energetic for 71. He has a wealth of experience, knowledge, and wisdom from his many years of being a successful businessman.

Kim Jong-Un is below average in height, especially if comparing the average height of men, worldwide. He is also, from a strictly medical and scientific standpoint, overweight.

So Trump is simply pointing out that he would never use derisive language to make fun of this guy’s very thick shortcomings.

;-)

Some people complain no matter how nice Trump behaves himself.
