The Tennessee State University marching band went to Japan several years ago. Shop keepers there routinely display their wares outside their shops for passersby to see. A bunch of band members took this as an opportunity to shoplift several thousand dollars worth of electronic merchandise. The entire band was detained on the runway while their persons and luggage was searched for the stolen items. After the items were recovered, TSU was told never to come back.
TSU is a traditionally black university.
Japanese and American-ghetto culture arent really compatible. My d-i-l (who is Japanese) left a dvd on a train at rush hour in Tokyo. Of course it was promptly turned into lost and found.
Of course Japanese reading about the incident might be tempted to think that was typical American behavior.
I think it was Texas Southern University, but ya know what?
They stole ***$20,0000*** worth of electronics..!!
