If it’s going to hurt Californians, a conservative says, postpone some of the tax plan
Sacramento Bee ^ | Nov 12 2017 | Tom McClintock

In the last four national elections, Americans made it clear that we won’t accept the economic stagnation we’ve suffered during this past decade. Obama’s policies of higher taxes and greater regulatory burdens suppressed economic growth to a dismal 1.5 percent annual average – about half the post-war growth rate of three percent.

"Congress should focus instead on the main objectives of tax reform: economic growth and tax relief for all families. This means leaving the current personal income tax structure in place while providing a permanent, uniform across-the-board reduction in the rates for all tax brackets."

Let the central coast secede. It can become the Peoples Democratic Republic of San Francisco.

It’s really beyond imagination how utterly stupid the Republicans are, and how consistent that are in their stupidity.

They never, ever seem to understand that when an “entitlement” (and I am using word in an unconventional way) is taken away, people freak out. Remove the mortgage deduction, remove the deduction for state income taxes, these are giant things. It is perhaps possible to model how this would affect tax revs collected and to accurately state (not that telling the truth is of any importance to politicians whatsoever) that *MOST* taxpayers will benefit, NO taxpayer actually believes that the proposed changes will do anything but hurt THEM. So they resist. Indeed, most taxpayers will instinctively believe that they will end up being the rare case of taxpayers who WILL get hurt, in other words, those not covered by the word *MOST*. As often as Congress has lied and misled the American people, who can blame folks for disbelieving these kinds of statements.

As a result, no matter how this tax bill ultimately plays out, selling it as they are generates the standard fears of suffering an actual tax INcrease by the cruel Republicans while everyone else is getting a break.

***********

I have a very complicated, very arcane means of providing some tax relief for EVERY TAXPAYER, and there is no question it will work that way and would immediately gain support.

Ready for it?

Keep everything exactly the way it is now. Raise the personal exemption by $1000. Or $800. The end.

If the tax bill hurts ANY Americans it needs to be fixed, period.

This is what distinguishes the Republicans from the Democrats in the first place.

You can’t reduce taxes on the middle class unless you either: 1) increase taxes on the rich,2) increase the deficit,or 3) cut spending. They aren’t going to do 3. They don’t want to do 2 since the deficit is so large already. That leaves 1. The Californians are just going to have to start paying their fair share. This huge loophole for state and local taxes benefits the rich in just a handful of Blue states. The rich in those states are going to have to be thrown under the bus in order to get the middle class tax cut passed.

“Pay their fair share” is liberal-speak for raising taxes on people. Google the term. Liberals use is again and again, every time they want the government to take more of people’s money and give it to government workers. Welcome to the liberal liberal club, Brilliant!

Give EVERYONE a tax cut.

Do not take away the American dream deduction, household mortgage deductions. Do not limit them!

These folks are examples of “ignorance gone wild”.

The plan is to free up money to spark the economy, and these idiots are still trying to counterbalance cuts with more taxes, creating a zero sum gain.

Why? Because they want to defeat Trump’s goals.

They can say they did what he wanted, and it blew up in their faces.

This is not in step with what Trump wanted, AT ALL!

Good old Tom McClintock .

Tom McClintock is that very rare and endangered species, an authentic California conservative.

Tom McClintock was instrumental in getting Governor Gray Davis recalled. And he was the grassroots choice to replace Davis as Governor.

So what happened? Why did McClintock not get a shot at it?

What happened is that the CAL GOPE wanted Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose sole qualification for them was name recognition. That, and the fact that Arnold would be their loyal sock puppet since he had no real idea of what he would do as Governor.

So the power brokers in the CAL GOP shoved Tom McClintock aside and promoted their wunderkind Arnold. And the rest is history.

BTW the very same GOPE ran an Obama clone for Governor last time around, Neel Kashkari, who admitted that he voted for Obama twice. Kashkari’s qualifications include being a Hindu (a big deal for the Multi Culti progressives of the GOPE) as well as being pro abortion, gun control, gay marriage, and a few other things I’ve forgotten.

And people outside of California wonder why the GOP loses so badly in this State... a State that gave Trump his third largest number of votes.. well look at the party establishment and you’ll find your answer

I’m waiting for one of these articles to say how much other states are subsidizing liberal state high taxes. Federal taxes should be equal across all states.

Yeah, well in California we have to support all of Mexico’s poor.

So we need the rest of you to bail us out so that we can pay for the 3rd world’s illegals to live in the manner that they demand.

This Congressman has a terrible idea. We need to simplify the tax code. Does he hold the brief for HR Block?

Hold their feet to the fire and pass POTUS plan.

Play less with the mortgage deduction, alimony, charity and property tax. Keep the brackets at a lower rate and keep the lower rate to the real middle class yearly earnings across America not 90K but at least 180K. Then there will be a savings to all and any gap will be handled by the increased GDP and the improving economy.

This means leaving the current personal income tax structure in place while providing a permanent, uniform across-the-board reduction in the rates for all tax brackets.

Doing this would not be consistent with the desperately needed simplification of the current personal income tax structure. Why should the taxpayers living in non high tax states subsidize states that have zero fiscal responsibility?

Why should not those states take action to reduce the tax burden on their citizens?

I do not think that keeping the status quo is acceptable or responsible. The Democrats created this situation, they should remedy it.

“The rich in those states are going to have to be thrown under the bus in order to get the middle class tax cut passed.”

Maybe, but you should take a look at which states are “takers” and which states are “givers, when it comes to the Fed Gov. California, as bad as it is, is a “giver state,” whereas South Carolina ( @#1, gets nearly $8.00 for every buck they contribute, followed by North Dakota($5.25), Florida ($4.50),Lousiana ($3.30), Alabama ($3.25 and Hawaii ($3.20). California gets about 90 cents. Other “giver states” are: New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Illinois, with the “winner” being Deleware which only gets about 50 cents. A total of 37 states are “takers.” So while you’re all for “sticking it” to States like CA that you don’t like, you might want to consider that we may be paying for your state’s “ride.”

Keep everything exactly the way it is now. Raise the personal exemption by $1000. Or $800. The end.

We have the highest corporate income tax rate in the developed world. Our global taxation scheme is the laughingstock of the world; every other developed country has territorial taxation and thinks it a good thing when their companies carve out markets overseas. U.S. companies have, last count, umpty-eleven bazillion dollars parked overseas because the U.S. tax code makes it stupid to bring it back. The U.S. code incentivizes offshoring and corporate inversions; a serious country would do the reverse.

On the individual side, half the country has no skin in the game while steeply progressive rates penalize the productive. The death tax is simply immoral. The complexity of the code makes tax avoidance a constant preoccupation and wastes scores of billions in compliance and opportunity costs each year.

I live in Washington, D.C. The elimination of the home mortgage interest deduction and the deductibility of state and local taxes would hurt people like me. I.Don't.Care. These are regressive subsidies that serve to encourage profligate spending by tax-happy, mostly Democrat pols. End them and let the chips fall where they may. And use the money to fix some of the bleeding ulcers I've named above.

If we want a pro-growth tax cut, start on the corporate side. That's where the big, ugly stupid stuff is to be found. Putting a little extra scratch into the pockets of middle class consumers is nice, but it's not where the action is. Building a "tax reform" bill around middle class cuts is a serious case of letting the tail wag the dog.

Remember when electing a Governor was just (basically) local?

Fed took care of most everything ‘gimmee dat wise’ but when the states got out of control, the FED stepped aside and told the states to ‘do it’.

THEN people started ‘worrying’ about Governors as they controlled the purse strings.

Once upon a time there was ‘affordable’ housing for ALL. Granted they may have been called Flop Houses but for cents a week one had a roof over ones head.

Then along came the YUPPIES and figured all those downtown areas were eyesores and had to be replaced.

NO ONE had a thought of what to do with the THOUSANDS of people who existed there...
Also there were institutions to house the mentally unstable/ill...which the same GROUP decided they were ‘cruel’ places.
AGAIN, NO ONE had a thought of what to do with all of society’s ‘rejects’ so they joined the other newly found HOMELESS.

Thanks LBJ your legacy should be posted daily so all can see what your ‘Great Society’ really wrought.

His infamous term describing ‘future’ D voters should have earned an automatic REJECT but we had freebies involved.

LBJ (and his crooked associates) was ‘smart enough’ to realize that WHITE America would never stand for Black Families receiving public assistance while some guy laid up in there and lived off her ‘earnings’ so they had to ‘throw the bums out’.

So LBJ and the Great Society did what Slavery, Civil Wars, KKK, and bigotry couldn’t do — He basically broke up the Black Family Unit.

History should show that for pure folly, LBJ & the McNamara era were the worst combo to hit the US

AND BO came along and just about put the finishing touches on the scheme.

MAGA President TRUMP, a whole lot of us want to help, just rid yourself of ALL the supposed friends/allies that are dragging ALL of us down.
