Depends on where one lives and who the prosecutor is I guess. If I do a warning shot it would be to the kneecap.
He should have shot it in the Paw like they always did on those old TV Westerns. Except for Lucas Mccain of course.
They only look both ways where the Highway Department puts those Deer Crossing Signs, or so I’ve heard. LOL
“Remove the hunting and trapping pressure, and wolves lose their fear of man as the top predator. “
It was the same thing with gators in Florida back in the early 70’s. I swam canals, lakes, rock pits, and tromped through swamp for years and had only one aggressive encounter with a gator.
Today they have lost fear of man and it’s not safe to stroll along the water’s edge in a lot of areas.
Good Synopsis.
Thanks.
Read here once: “I fired a warning shot into his liver.”
Aren’t warning shots illegal?
My understanding is that one should never admit to a warning shot, only shoot to kill when ‘in fear of your life’ otherwise end up in jail.
I carry a ruger scout 308 usually, or if I feel like there’s more threat, I take my Springfield m1a with extra mags.
I own several Sig 1911s and Kimber 1911s, smith 357, ruger 357, but government says we can only go to range with those. It’s silly and beyond retarded. I know many who carry anyways, but I’m an ol soldier and prefer my battle rifles.
I also carry bergara 6.5 creedmoor with vortex amg if I think I will be in an area with long range engagements. I’ve shot running coyotes out past 750 yards with that.
Don’t necessarily agree with the gut shoot policy.
But I am a firm believer in the the 3 S’s.
SHOOT, SHOVEL, SHUTUP.
Warning shots are not illegal.
Warning shots can be risky.
Warning shots sometimes work, and sometimes don’t.
A lat of these this week.
Further investigation at the site of the shooting indicated the hunter was 27 yards from where he shot and where the wolf died. The wolf was seized and later released to ODFW for examination. The Union County District Attorneys Office was consulted regarding the investigation, and based upon the available evidence, the case will not be prosecuted as this is believed to be an incidence of self-defense.
A wolf acting aggressively and failing to retreat at 27 yards (2-3 seconds) would seem to me to be a threat. In Oregon I'd take their word for it's being a wolf. In the upper midwest so many inbred with dogs and coyotes, a DNA test might be necessary if charges are brought.
A (Russian) shooting coach once commented on warning shots:
“Warning shot? Yes. Fire three warning shot. Two warning shot in chest, one warning shot in head.”
Funny guy - always had a good answer that made sense, and he always made his advice memorable. [Gunny was memorable too, but his explanations were more physical.]
In a National Park or Monument, and I believe on federal lands where shooting is not allowed, a warning shot is known as illegal discharge. By firing a “warning shot” you’re admitting you’re not in fear of your life. Most anywhere, if you run into an anti gun LEO or prosecutor, you’ve likely violated various animal harassment laws. Personally I think it’s a good idea, many animals will shy from the noise. But I likely wouldn’t do anything until an animal has approached to a distance where it would be a threat. In theory, you can be charged with illegal discharge successfully defending yourself.
No quarter given, because of that fact.
I hope that was not Your Pup.
Wolves,coyotes and bears...
Deserve to be controlled!
Just reveiwed a little of
Timmy Snakwells OPUS.
Some kind of sick bastard!
Oh hell no.
If it had been one of mine, the trail cam photo would show me tearing that coyotes throat out with my bare teeth, instead.
Good on you my Canadian comrade in arms ( old USAF vet here)! Great minds think alike...I have a gunsite scout 308 myself with a red dot sight. Sorry about the handgun problem up there...we don’t have that. I’d move to Canada if you had gun laws like Arizona.
Yours truly
I have the ghost rings on mine and I like it, but I may try red dot too.
I have a spectre ds 1-4 on m1a, best combat optic a guy can get, it’s great.
I’m just glad Trump is in, he’s been doing good things for the Alberta economy. God knows my own government isn’t.
