Shoot—Sexual misconduct didn’t hurt BJ Clintoon.
Or Ted Kennedy...
We are not even sure, at this point, that there WAS sexual misconduct. Recall that Alabama, like Washington, DC, has an age of consent for females of sixteen years of age.
Events that took place some forty years ago tend to blur somewhat, and there is no definitive clarification that the female who claimed to be fourteen years old at the time was, in fact, only fourteen and not already of the “age of consent”. And fourteen-year-old girls have been known to lie about their age, so it may have been a “honey-pot” thing, the prospective suitor taking the person at her word.
In any event, things happening in the past cannot be undone, only reassessed in the light of current information. Was a crime committed? I do not know, but since in all the years that Roy Moore has been heartily hated and despised by a certain small segment of the Alabama voters (he was removed from the Alabama Supreme Court, not once, but TWICE), this particular offense had not once ever been alluded to previously, but “conveniently” brought up just as a major offensive against his election to the US Senate had been mounted, makes one think the whole charge is fabricated, and unworthy of legitimate political discourse.
Barney Frank was always in the media spotlight. He had a prostitution ring running out of his home. And, the media yawned and he kept getting reelected.
