Democrat Ralph Northam has won Virginia's race for governor.
Early unofficial results show Northam defeated Republican Ed Gillespie on Tuesday.
Virginia's hard-fought race was closely watched as a swing-state test of President Donald Trump's popularity. Northam, a pediatric neurologist and the state's lieutenant governor, repeatedly tried to tie Gillespie to the president during months of divisive campaigning overshadowed by racial overtones and attack ads.
Northam's victory was in large part due to a surge in anti-Trump energy since the president took office. Democrats said they had record levels of enthusiasm heading into the race.
Gillespie kept Trump at a distance throughout the campaign but tried to rally the president's supporters with hard-edge ads focused on illegal immigration and preserving Confederate statues.

Not surprising since he ran against Never Trumper Gillespie, who’s already lost a statewide race in Virginia. Karl Rove’s corrupt friend now can stay home and hopefully in 4 years Republicans can run a real and loyal candidate.

I’m HAPPY the old dinosaur ROVE party member did not win. Screw these guys let them all go away. We always are told by Freepers to “just vote R even though they’re not perfect, they’re still not dems” and look where this got us. Socialized medicine these RINOS refuse to repeal and amnesty for years. Which, btw is why VA will never be red again, at least for a long time.

With dems winning the governor, lt governor, and state AG, Virginia is lost forever to the GOP. And it make no difference that exit polls show the voters overwhelmingly want to keep up Confederate monuments, they’ll be coming down. Same thing goes for Washington and Jefferson. The asskissing PC democrats will make ISIS look like child’s play. Misery loves company, and Virginia will regret the day they put Godless democrats totally in control of Virginia. Sad.
Its the demographics. Too many liberals in NOVA.
I’ll take solace from a Roy Moore win in AL tonight.
NoVa has always had a lot of federal employees and black voters.
It’s the influx of messicans and middle easterners in the last 15 years that has finally added up to over come any large rural and suburb turn out for a conservative.
Next time Virginia needs to run a real Republican.

WI and MI though are trending GOP.
They have Republican governors and legislatures. Trump picked up both previously Blue States last year.
The GOPe abandoning Ken Cucinelli four years ago may be the reason for the loss this evening.
