Early James Comey draft called Hillary Clinton ‘grossly negligent,’ Chuck Grassley says
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | 11/6/17 | Steven T. Dennis

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley said Monday an early draft of then-FBI Director James Comey’s public statement on the Hillary Clinton email case called her “grossly negligent” — a legally significant phrase that was excised from the final version.

The Iowa Republican wants to know who edited the draft and why, and has asked current FBI Director Christopher Wray to provide all documents to that effect, including metadata for the file to see if it shows who made the edits.

A federal statute provides criminal penalties for “gross negligence,” but Comey in his public statement on July 5 instead called Clinton “extremely careless” in her handling of classified information when she was secretary of state. He said no prosecutor would bring a criminal case against her.

I wonder what or who made Comey change the wording? Lynch? McCabe?

I’m not holding my breath that anything will happen to Hillary for the Comey-outlined felonies, the uranium thing, and all the other lawbreaking she did. After all, she’s Hillary and the Republicans are the nation’s weenies.

Just a bunch of stupid navel gazing and as per the standard Clinton playbook, dividing the issue in half. There’s not an atom of difference between “grossly negligent” and “extremely careless” if we are talking about a person who has undergone specific training for the specific item in question. The reason an official or an employee goes through any such training is to remove and extinguish any such equivocation. Otherwise why go through the training? Hillary Clinton underwent such training and signed an agreement with the prior administration that she would not engage in precisely the behavior she engaged in.

But even that is bifurcating the meaning. Her use of the private server is the whole story and the end of the story and is an indictable offense on its face times the number of times it happened. Full stop.

HRC needs to be indicted for 1300 or so violations on 18 USC 793 and until she is, the US legal system is in the maw of a flush toilet.

Looks like Comey was “extremely careless” and “grossly negligent” in his writing and keeping drafts.

Paper cuts hurt careers.

Why do you think someone else made him do it? Comey is part of the swamp and doesn’t need any help to Do the wrong thing.

Yes, but it was not her intent to be grossly negligent, according to Comey.

"Sorry officer, I did not intend to go 85 in that 55 mph zone."

"Sorry boss, I did not intend to be late for work for the past week."

"Sorry IRS, I did not intend to take those undocumented deductions from my gross income last year--I did not intend to fraudulently file my return that shows negative income!"

At some point, it does not matter what one intended; their actions are sufficient to prove intent on their own.

I would hope Sen Grassley could call Comey back in for more questioning if for no other reason than to watch a former FBI head take the 5th.
