Two women believed to be the wife and mother-in-law of the gunman who opened fire at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Sunday sometimes attended the church and appear to have been close to the pastor’s family, online records and social media profiles reviewed by Yahoo News show. And police revealed on Monday that the 26-year-old gunman, Devin Patrick Kelley, of New Braunfels, Texas, sent threatening texts to his mother-in-law.

I think the media is working hard to make this a domestic case and not an anti-Christian one. But, the shooter could have targeted the wife and mother in law anywhere...so, why a church?

From what I’ve read today, he’s on the rocks with wife#2, has a history of animal abuse to go along with wife and kid abuse, no word of his home life as a kid with mom and pop, but he did call his dad on his way out of the Springs.

Pastor must have told him to stop hitting his wife and kids, or something. Those pesky holy rollers are always ruining people’s fun./s

Sometimes people just go crazy, and pick whatever target is available. It’s not new:

I think there is good reason to believe that the domestic situation did play a big role in this. No doubt his being agnostic allowed him to carry through with his actions though.

I had initially asked why he targeted this particular church when I learned he was not local to that area.

I suspect it’s a combination of both domestic, with a large dose of anti-Christian as well.

Sounds to me like there were troubles and mom was helping daughter....either to have the husband get help, come to church, or perhaps the mom was supporting the daughter who wanted to get away from him.

If he is a hate-filled atheist, then he would be every bit as angry at the “church” as he would his MIL. Shooting was at the church because he assumed that’s where he’d find her, plus he could kill her beloved church family as well. Pure evil.

I’m not buying that, yet. But peoples’ personal mental and emotional issues can certainly be inflamed and encouraged by other outside influences.

As they say, if you don’t believe in Something, you’ll fall for Anything...

I personally feel that the anti-gun people are influencers of the mentally ill to create such atrocities. How do we know what has gone down behind the scenes.

I saw several claims this was a lone ranger antifa operation with domestic overtones. And I was wondering if any connection to antifa was found. Certainly he dressed the part and his belief system is much like antifa - anti-Christian atheist, violence, and more. But did they find any writings or publications? - Facebook comment?

I remember reading about that. Also some prolific serial killers back in the 1800’s and early 1900’s. Yet the media will tell you it’s a new phenomenon. There’s always been evil in this world.
