I agree with you that something’s not quite right about this story. Rather than list the aspects of her job she will not perform, maybe this nurse would be better off seeking a position where these issues won’t come up. The story says she performed well working in a burn unit ICU. Why not seek another job like that?
I’m shocked at how naive and uninformed FReepers are. Do you think that Catholic healthcare workers don’t have the potential to be required to violate their conscience in all areas, including the burn ICU? How foolish. ICU nurses are frequently confronted with end-of-life issues including passive and active euthanasia. Operating room nurses face abortion, sterilization, and gender reassignment procedures. Floor nurses and ER nurses can be forced to administer medications they are opposed to, such as abortifacients and hormone therapy for transgenders. Wake up. Our healthcare system has devolved into a cesspool. There are so many things that have little to do with restoring health these days. Instead of criticizing this nurse you’d all be better served by praying for these healthcare providers who are being thrown to the wolves.
