Understand, a lot of very bad people sunk millions into these races and got nothing. If they can recoup any of that value, they have to try.
They know it is hopeless; these futile gestures seem much more geared towards keeping the mindless base motivated than actually accomplishing anything. They have to counter a lot of negative stuff with the primary rigging, slave treatment of Donna Brazile, etc.
