To: Cementjungle
I mean this as a legal question...when or where does the FBI get involved in a shooting? 5 dead? 10 dead? And why do they have jurisdiction in a shooting like this?

Of course, I have no confidence in the FBI. But could the local PD or Sheriff tell them to F off and leave?

Actually, the County Sheriff outranks any Fed official.

He can tell them to get lost.

Most sheriffs just comply.

Thanks to Federal "hate crime" statutes the FBI can insert itself into anything under the guise of "investigating possible hate crimes".

That wouldn't be too too bad if the FBI's priorities were at least a little in alignment with the citizens of the USA, but I'm afraid that this isn't the case these days.

I believe the FBI provides support in forensics, interviews, investigative backup, and should any federal angle develops, be there to handle it. They are called in for any major case even though others have jurisdiction.
