I agree. However, the problem with "national standards" is that those who develop them are the same people who got us where we are today. Thus, Common Core.
It used to be that the SAT and ACT were reliable, independent indicators of academic attainment. That has changed: government, universities, and the testing organizations are now conspiring to make those scores less and less useful.
Employment-based testing, having an obvious and clear economic motive for truthfulness, would be the most effective, but that is "unconstitutional," so we're pretty much up the creek.
Public education was never a “right” when this country was founded, and in the end employers are the ones realizing how deficient our students are. I find even a simple paragraph (about anything) written by a potential employee can tell me volumes.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
The felon has more dark stripes than the other two samples...
