Give up that Airbnb. Fix up that back unit,” Schaff said, encouraging property owners to lease apartments at more affordable rates to recently homeless individuals, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“In Oakland, we don’t step over the homeless we step toward them,” Schaaf said.

The city’s uptick in vagrants is tied to a general gentrification in the Bay Area, stemming from San Francisco, where artists and innovators unable to afford skyrocketing rents have migrated to Oakland.

Yes rents are skyrocketing!

However, I was recently told that San Fran is assessing taxes against tech firms on a per capita basis...Is that even legal?

San Fran loves the revenue from the tech companies, but no tax incentives for housing for the people. If they are concerned, let them lower property taxes or tax breaks.

Let her be the first to “fix up that back unit” and take in some homeless.

BTW, who or what are “innovators?

Great idea. Let professional scam artists with records of mental illness and arrests take your address as their own...in California, a state with very strong tenant protection laws.

What could go wrong?

There are no homeless people. There are people who can’t get aid from the government because of outstanding warrants. There are the Urban Outdoorsmen who choose a lifestyle. There are those who work as a homeless person during the day. And there are genuine crazies that would be in a mental hospital, except California led the nation in getting involuntary commitments ruled unconstitutional 40 years ago.

But then, a good Communist never sees a down side to taking **your** property.

And therein is the "rub"..

If you invite them in, and then not charge them rent, they can assert adverse possession because you didn't charge them rent.

Once there, you can't evict them.

Of course, it could have nothing to do with their neurotic, senile governor inviting all third worlders to settle in that sewer of a state, now, could it?

"If you can make it to kommiefornia soil, you're home free", or something to that effect.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf called on her constituents to open their doors and residences to the city’s homeless

The obvious question - how many homeless people does Mayor Schaaf have living with her? And what do the rest of Oakland's residents - the ones that don't have government-funded security - do to protect themselves against the often violent behavior of the drug addicts and mentally disturbed people who make up the overwhelming majority of the homeless population?

“In Oakland, we don’t step over the homeless we step toward them,” Schaaf said. It’s the taxpayers and property owners we step on.

This woman needs to spend some time with the homeless. Many of them are homeless because even their own families have given up on them.

Feed them and clothe them, yes, if you wish to (biblically it’s the right thing to do), but having them live in your house? *shakes head no*

Don’t step over them. That’s getting waaay too close and the smell alone can cause lasting injury.

Walk around them. 50 feet clearance minimum.

Knowing California Landlord Tenant laws, if you take a homeless person into your home, it will be at least 24 months before you can kick them out if they do not want to leavers

Given California homeless advocate lawyers, you will probably go bankrupt in the process fighting the lawsuits they file against you to prevent you from evicting these people

Agree FF is one of the better ones on ID. We’re trying out life with no cable, but there’s a channel called Escape that I pick up with antennae. They show a lot of FF.

Take in Homeless

I'm sure that will work out just fine.

Especially if you have young children in the home.

This is insanity. Pure and simple.

Mercat -

In my family, we have some drunks.

None are mental. So, maybe not most - I will agree to "A lot".

Anchorage is now going thru a *bit* of a problem with thousands of 'homeless' that is costing the muni an arm and leg.

The local "Catholic charity" runs a full time feeding station and no-cost flophouse for the 'homeless' The area is now lousy with drunks/crackheads. The ones living on the street are bad enough, but the ones 'camping' in the nearby woods are a eco-disaster

I seriously won't be surprised if we see California try something like that - passing a law requiring those with a certain amount of property to provide shelters or some such thing.

"Quartering." But these invaders will have less discipline than a formal army, usually.

Has anybody ever noticed that under a democrap administration the homeless just seem to disappear, then as soon as there is a Republican in the Oval Office they multiply at an exponential rate?

Sad. I hate Russian literature because too much booze and not enough sun. Same problem in Alaska. I usually assume that “drunks” are self medicating because that’s what my son did for twenty years. He was bi-polar. Very bright. Tried so hard to be normal, took his meds but they didn’t keep up with this multiple health issues.
