Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri resigned from his post Saturday during a trip to Saudi Arabia less than a year after taking office, in a surprise move that plunged the country into uncertainty amid heightened regional tensions.

The juxtaposition of the Lebanese PM's resignation while visiting Saudi Arabia; with a missile attack on Riyadh, Saudi Arabia that was successfully intercepted by a Patriot missile battery (to which the USA will likely find reason yet to respond); even while the Israeli Judo team has experienced a couple of snubs (handshake, anthem) during a competition in the UAE, will all likely (and unexpectedly for some) combine/snowball to lead to a major ME escalation of tensions (if not destruction).

The missile was likely assembled in Yemen, but almost certainly was of Iranian design (at least as Western nations will likely conclude). Its firing is an extremely dangerous provocation, and much more may come of all these factors over the coming days.

A US response to Yemen would carry implications for North Korea, but in short, Saudi Arabia will want its allies and friends to help stave off any further "instability." (The bedfellow alignments may raise some eyebrows.)

Lebanese PM is Sunni Muslim. Too little, too late as Iran and its Shiite Muslim proxy, Hezbollah effectively run Lebanon.

Change is a whirlwind and the resignation of a fearful Sunni PM of a country run by the Iranian proxy Hezbollah—while their benefactor’s missile almost landed on Riyadh—could be the butterfly wings that set it off.

I suggest Hariri is a microcosm of SA. Hariri had been dependent on SA, and sought SA's protection.
SA has been dependent on the USA (e.g., Patriot battery), and now is likely to seek further US (NATO/Western nations (think recertification of the Iranian deal and the parties thereto) protection.

Netanyahu’s comments yesterday, that due to the Iranian threat, previously unthinkable alliances are now being forged could be very telling and important.

“Iran is devouring one nation after the other,” Netanyahu said. They're trying to do that in Iraq and Syria. He said, "[T]he Middle East was witnessing “the emergence of a battle between the Islamists and the modernists,” provoking a “new alliance between Israel and Islamic states.”

That's potentially pretty heady stuff!

Yes, but don’t shortchange these guys and their intricate planning. What else do they have to do with their idle time?
