The phones were valued at $370,000
In another brazen burglary in downtown San Francisco, suspects dressed in hooded sweatshirts snatched at least 300 iPhone Xs valued at $370,000 and made off with them, according to San Francisco police. The smartphones which launched to the general public Friday morning at $999 a piece were stolen from a delivery truck parked in a loading dock at Stonestown Mall around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police spokesman Officer Robert Rueca said. A white Dodge van was used in the burglary and anyone with information is asked to call police at (415) 575-4444.
The iPhone X is being touted by Apple as its hottest-selling smartphone ever, selling out within minutes online. Apple has billed the iPhone X as the future of the smartphone.
CNET reported those who ordered their iPhone Xs from the Stonestown Apple Store will still receive them on time.
This is like stealing a briefcase of money with no money in it. How are they going to resell the phones? Or even activate them?
perfect!.....No guns allowed or needed....
I guess Apple can’t track down the miscreants. ...it would be racist.
300 x $999 does not equal $370,000. Is this reporter a graduate of Common Core?
These delivery trucks need large signs:”Clyde’s Work Boots Company”.
The thieves are real idiots. All they have to do is turn on the GPS in the phones and the police will find them.
Also iphones have serial numbers that can be traced.
Sometime ago I read a simlar story about how some thieves had stolen some GPS devices. Guess how long it took the police to turn on the GPS devices and catch the thieves. Not very long.
They’ll go steal the sim cards too. It’s Tony’s guys, they’ve got a plan.
“At least” 300.
Maybe they snatched 360 actually...
Maybe he’s counting the CA sales tax.
As long as the author thinks it looks close.
The thieves are going to sell them not use them. The buyer’s going to be the one with problems.
Or else had deluxe memory packages.
Expensive phones.
Nice. But expensive.
For being made in China, that is.
ok, I may have overestimated the intelligence of these thieves. There’s hope for recovery yet.
Could be figuring in insurances, if any, manufacturing costs, trucking costs, the total cost and fees to the company to get it there, plus the worth of the phone. All that’s lost if the phones aren’t accounted for
Valued at $370,000 here but valued at 90 cents at the China factory they’re made at.
Some may be the higher priced 256GB models.
Hmmm, just saw an ad on Phoenix Craigslist for a new in the box iphone X for $1400...
Socialism in action.
