President Donald Trump is calling the suspect in the New York City truck attack an "animal."
Trump says he will ask Congress to "immediately" begin work to terminate the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, which he says was used by the alleged attacker to enter the United States.
Officials have not yet said that was the case.
Trump says "we will take all necessary steps to protect our people."
He also called for "quick justice" and "strong justice" for terror suspects in the wake of the attack, calling the current justice system a "joke."
"What we have right now is a joke and it is a laughing stock and no wonder so much of this stuff takes place," Trump told reporters.
Trump earlier in the day reiterated his desire to go to a merit-based immigration policy over the lottery program.

Some form of the diversity lottery goes way back to 1965.

I think it dates back almost 30 years to when Schumer was a member of the House.
The Republicans control the House and the Senate. There is no reason why the Diversity Visa Program can’t be voided within a week.

Of course that makes too much sense for the libs, especially Schumer.
All European countries that get shutout from our normal legal immigration procedures ARE eligible for Diversity Visas.
I would say instead of shutting down just the Diversity Visa program, that we shutdown all immigration, and then after a moratorium, we start with a limited merit based system.
This “diversity lottery” should never have been allowed, and the sooner it is ended, the better.
There is no evidence that “diversity” is of any benefit to America, and an abundance of evidence that it is harmful.
