You can thank the Governor of NY “BOY” Cuomo for this.

Anyone enforcing laws that are entirely antithetical to the US Constitution should do so at their own peril.

Yes, just as ignorance of the law is not a defense then neither should ignorance of the Constitution be a defense for law enforcement, judges, or lawmakers who act in contempt of our liberties.

When these people swear an oath to defend the Constitution ‘against all enemies foreign and domestic’ the expectation is that they’re not supposed to become that which they’ve sworn to defend against.

“17 round magazines are legal in IL?”

Sure are. I’ve got a pile of 30 round ones for my ARs and AKs, some 15 round ones for my XD pistols, more for the Mini-14, and 4 13 round mags for my CZ.

I carry legally and routinely every day and nearly everywhere I go in Illinois, city of Chicago and county of Cook included. So does my wife.

Boy, how things have changed since the 1950’s. Back then the Memorial Day ceremonies included a salute fired with M-1 rifles. The high point for all of he 10 or so year old boys was the mad dash for the spent shells. Everybody wanted one. No teacher ever cared if one of the kids brought one to school for show and tell.

Well I guess maybe I’m one also. I carry a .40S&W MP Shield with two extra mags as my walking around gun plus my Beretta Tomcat purse gun. I have a 380 Ruger LCP over the sun visor in my car. I feel comfortable.

Sorry, I thought they were one of the 10 round or less states.

Nope. I can buy anything I can afford here up to and including rifles chambered in .50 BMG.

Do a little research on how may gun manufacturers are located in IL. You’ll be surprised.

Rock River, DS Arms, Springfield Armory, Rock Island, just to name a few.

Cook County has some stupid rules on magazine capacity but they don’t apply to CCL holders. So me and my 13 round CZ have no worries at all.

The [Safe] Act included a high-capacity magazine provision, provided that beginning on April 15, 2013, only magazines with a capacity of seven rounds could legally be sold in New York.[11]

The Act allowed ten-round magazines purchased before that date, but made it illegal to load more than seven rounds of ammunition into a ten-round magazine, except “at an incorporated firing range or competition recognized by the National Rifle Association or International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association.”[11] Historic or antique guns (defined as those manufactured more than fifty years ago) were exempt from this requirement.[11]

The magazine provisions were struck down by Judge Skretny in 2013,[13] and this ruling was upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 2015, making it so “gun owners can legally load 10 rounds in a 10-round magazine.”[10]

Neither the Act nor the subsequent court cases affected New York’s pre-existing ten-round magazine limit.[11] The Act does not place a limit on the number of magazines that individuals could purchase at any one time.[11]

Not sure what that’s all about but also my dad has ten - fifteen round magazines for his M1 carbine; all loaded.

Not sure what that’s all about ..

New York "SAFE Act" gun law restricting magazine capacity. I think a few other states like California, Massachusetts and maybe NJ have similar laws.

Some people say you shouldn't keep your magazines fully loaded for long periods of time, since it might ruin the spring tension. I kind of doubt that's true though. One time I found a loaded Colt M-16 magazine in my closet that I had forgotten about and it had been loaded with some blanks for about 30+ years with no apparent ill effects.

One of my brothers found an old WW2 magazine with the rounds still in it; when he went to try to pry it open the spring shot the rounds clear across the garage floor.
