So they allow religion and private property. Since I tutor a number of children of Indian immigrants, I know that India has a very strong family tradition. Karl Marx wanted to abolish family, religion, and private property. What does this Communist party stand for? Are they more like social democrats?

This whole article is just imbecilic. It also points out that unlike in other parts of the world, the communist movement in the state never sought to "stamp out religion"

It also said unlike communists in China, Latin America or Eastern Europe, party leaders in the southern state never seized factories or banned private property.

Yeah, right! Like they had a choice. Kerala like any other state has to follow the Indian Constitution and anyone trying anything as stupid as what the writer suggests would find themselves booted out of office pretty quickly by the courts and/or by the central government.
