haha, that is serious old school there then. Okay, I hope Springer doesn’t cross your path anytime soon......or his car for that matter.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/sportsline-mlb-playoff-projections-world-series-odds-after-astros-win-game-5/

Astros in 6: 47% (Astros not in 6: 53%)
Astros in 7: 24%

Dodgers in 7: 29%

Odds say more chance than not (barely) that the Series goes 7 games. Then the Dodgers have a very narrow edge in the odds to win it all.

As a further note, the longest record for an MLB franchise to win it’s first World Series title still belongs to the Philadelphia Phillies who won their first title in 1980 (Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Tug McGraw, etc).

This was 77 years after the World Series was first created in 1903 and 97 years after the Phillies first joined the National League in 1883. The Phillies had made previous appearances in the Series in 1915 against the Boston Red Sox and in 1950 (The Whiz Kids) against the New York Yankees. If the Astros win, it will be 55 years to their first title, as they joined the NL in 1962 as the Houston Colt 45s, along with the New York Mets.

Meaningless.

Oh, I hate sports media coverage of Yasiel Puig.

"Black Sox" scandal was in the 1919 World Series.

JV is rarely NOT JV on the mound.

he has ice water in his veins.

He lives for this stuff.

He goes 7+ strong...astros in 6

I was sad to see JV leave my beloved Tigers, but am thrilled that he now controls his own destiny for his well-deserved ring.

Agreed, it is just that 1917 was the last Series win for the White Sox franchise shortly before the infamous 1919 one, which the Sox lost to the Cincinnati Reds 5 games to 3. The White Sox did not win another AL pennant until, of course, the 1959 “Go Go White Sox” season.

I think the Dodgers played so hard last night because playing against Verlander post-season is close to a sure loss, they wanted to have a cushion. In fact, that’s what I’m going to guess, Astros end the World Series with Verlander, game 6, Tuesday. It’s still been a fine World Series. If it is pushed to a game 7, then, LA has the advantage obviously.

Some people say within 15 years, AZ and TX will tilt. Minority-Majority States go that way generally. Be careful of what you demand of others.

Virginia, Colorado, Nevada, all states that have been solidly red in the past. Trump is our last hope.

Verlander has been utterly dominating since he arrived in Houston at the start of Sept. He is 9-0 with the Astros (4-0 in postseason). Any Astros fan has to feel great about their chances. Of course, screwy things can happen, but if I were a betting man I’d bet on Verlander pitching a dominating game tomorrow and Astros win in 6.

The last time the Cubs were in the World Series before last year was 1945 when they lost to the Detroit Tigers in 7 games.

As people ascend the economic ladder they identify more with the dominant, White culture.

The Irish voted overwhelmingly Democratic all the way from the mid 1800s up to the 1960s. Now they split evenly between the parties.

The same thing will happen with the Hispanics.

Don’t believe the bullshit. Look deeper for your self.

Yes, 71 years is the current turnpike for longest absence from a finals series for a big 4 pro sports team and that’s up there with the Chicago/St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals NFL franchise that went from 1947 to Super Bowl XLIII (against the Pittsburgh Steelers) without a finals appearance. Current ones are:
NBA-Rochester/Cincinnati Royals/Kansas City/Sacramento Kings-1951-Won NBA championship same night as the 1951 NHL Toronto Maple Leafs did with Bill Barilko goal (player who died in plane crash in the following summer and Leafs did not win Stanley Cup until 1962 and that summer Barilko’s remains were finally found in Northern Ontario wilderness).
NFL-Detroit Lions-1957-longest absence from NFL final series and oldest team to have not yet appeared in a Super Bowl
NHL-Toronto Maple Leafs-1967-Last Stanley Cup title and Finals series appearance and last playoff year for the NHL Original Six era.
MLB-Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals-Entered MLB as an expansion team in 1969 and closest to World Series appearance was a loss to Los Angeles Dodgers for NL pennant in 1981. With the Cubs making the World Series last year and the other modern expansion teams like the California Angels, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, NY Mets, San Diego Padres, and the Milwaukee Brewers winning at least one pennant, the Expos/Nats franchise is both the longest away from a Series appearance and oldest MLB expansion team to have not done so yet (followed by the 1977 Seattle Mariners).

Can we have even one World Series thread without mentioning the Red Sox?

Um, okay. Sorry I apparently upset you.

I was tempted to make a Red Sox related observation, but resisted. This WS is about the Astros and Dodgers.

Yeah. I know. Go Astros.

By the way, you've misspelled "Massachusetts".
