So who let the contract?

Puerto Rico's Electric Power Authority (PREPA)< English, (AEE)< Spanish.

The basket-case "Territory" is mostly a royal "CF." Closest thing I can think of is "Keystone Kops." But unlike the Keystone Kops, this is not intended as comedy.

CBS, the sorry shadow of its former self now a great propaganda fake/slanted site, slanting All "news" reports to reveal everything about current U.S.A. social, economic and political conditions in the worst possible light, effectively useless as a news source.
This thread is a great example of that.

What hotels?

http://casasolbnb.com/ (BTW - many nice pics of the place — post storm)
Open for business as the owner had installed a solar system to get off the execrable local power.

Open for business and taking reservations.

The cost of doing business overseas is high - I get that. The rates may be a bit high for a US Territory, but the work is hard. I posted the details for folks who don’t look for related information on a story.

Have fun while you can.

Assuming the locals will do anything to help themselves seems to fly in the face of the demonstrated culture of the Island.

I keep seeing a real New Orleans echo here....

Bring out the popcorn. Will Puerto Rico ever have electric power again? If so, who is going to give it to them? The well is poisoned! Are they going to go crawling to Trump?

Criswell predicts ... eventually!

Ir’s like the old joke, “ ... well I sent you two boats and a helicopter.”

But why did the Governor cancel the contract? Who got to him? I can only see Democrats in this picture. This has got to be explosive! How do they see this working out for them, with the entire island lying there prostrate?

Well, I guess by “locals” you mean the governorship of the island. The Governor is the one that cancelled the contract, so what was he thinking? I don’t think he was thinking at all, I think he was acting under orders ... but from whom ... ?

This whole thing is just a howling enigma to me ... what the heck is going on?

I heard the tail end of a report that seemed to be describing a major failure of electricity near San Juan for a portion that this company’s workers had fixed. In addition I found the article below that might be of interest.

And now I have to prove it didn’t happen due to the seriousness of the charges?

No, I didn’t ask you to “prove” anything. I hoped perhaps someone, particularly someone from the area might have more information to share.

I forgot the /sarc tag. Sorry about that.

The first team from my company was relived by the second team a few days ago. No reports of major fires. But, I would say that an electrical fire could happen after the power is restored. They are only doing the high voltage lines. Could be a transformer blowing up. The place was ravaged by a hurricane, ya know.

Today I had time to Google search. Here are two links about the sudden power failure this past Thursday. Power was up around 43% and immediately dropped to 18% for the island. My son’s San Juan suburb was one of the affected areas. Hope it was repaired as quickly as projected in the article. It was in a major line that had been worked on by the electric company that was fired. Don’t know if they could have been negligent. They say not. Bryan, you seem to have some expertise. Can you look at the links and make sense of it technically for the rest of us??
