The House panel is working to determine who paid for the research behind the dossier, which contained several salacious allegations against Trump."

Can we wrap this up? We already know.

Are they holding all the cards?
Or rather, are their owners (funders) holding the cards?
These days its hard to be too paranoid.

What were the terms of the “settlement”?

Congress (us really) pays Fusion GPS $80 million, and they hand over their latest creative work of anti-Trump fiction.

FusionGPS was dragging their feet trying to cover for Hillary but it’s now a moot point.

The Washington Free Beacon (so-called conservatives and neverTrumps to the end) got this liberal crony outfit off the hook yesterday by admitting they funded FusionGPS but only early on, before the dossier was created. This established (and will be confirmed by the financial records that will now be turned over) that Hillary’s campaign and the DNC paid for the actual dossier - $8 million worth - and no one else.

Apparently I give too much legal standing to a Republican led congressional subpoena.

My suggestion to you is to give equal legal standing to Republican subpoenas as you would give to Democrat subpoenas.

I only wish Republican congressmen and Obama judges respected Republican led committee subpoenas.

I hope you're not saying that Republican led committee subpoenas should be given greater respect than the U.S. Constitution.

How about when a congressional subpoena is presented to a bank the bank complys with it. Pretty simple, don’t you agree? Nothing more or less than what the law calls for. That means not negotiating with judges as to what degree the subpoena will be complied with. I suppose you favor the opposition judge negotiated type subpoena. By the way where is that type subpoena called for in the constitution you’re looking at.

Even the records of their Canadian affiliates? Remember Hillary went to Canada recently.

Get the Clinton Foundation donation records! Don’t have to report in US.

I favor the 4th Amendment. A Congressional subpoena does not negate the 4th Amendment protections against unreasonable searches and seizures. Any government demand for documents needs to be narrowly tailored to ensure that there is no fishing expedition.

I understand that you have faith that a Republican Congress can do no wrong. I disagree with you, but will not attempt to dissuade your faith. Just remember ... it is possible that a future Congress may be dominated by Democrats. That's why it is unwise to argue that Congressional subpoenas are not constrained by the 4th Amendment.
