Congress Questioning Kaspersky Breach

Lawmakers expressed bipartisan interest in expanding the role of the National Institute of Technology and Standards according to H.R. 1224 concerning how contracted companies work with federal agencies and departments. Members of the House Subcommittee on Science Oversight met Thursday to discuss a recent revelation of a 2015 security breach involving an NSA contractor and a Russian spyware product.

Julio Rivera who is a cybersecruity expert and Editor of Reactionary Times says that the breach that occurred in 2015 was first discovered by Israeli intelligence who then alerted the U.S. However, officials did not ban the software at the time of this finding. In fact, Elain Duke of the Department of Homeland Security banned the product from use in federal agencies and departments after the incident became publicly known in September of this year.

Committee member Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) expressed his concern that more action was not taken to ensure security and that the company, Kaspersky Lab, had not notified the NSA of the breach. “This happened in a previous administration and I hope that we’re cleaning up some of the looseness that we’ve had in the intelligence community,” Rep. Loudermilk stated during the hearing.

In December of 2010, NASA awarded the Agency Consolidated End-User Services (ACES) Contract to HP Enterprise Services of Herndon, Virginia.

In short, NASA contracts all of their computer hardware and computing services through this contract.

In early 2011, I was one of the recipients of a “refresh” computer. All that means is that I received a new computer to replace my old one.

What computer did I receive? A Lenovo M81 Desktop. For those unfamiliar, you may ask why this is significant. Lenovo Group Ltd. or Lenovo PC International, often shortened as Lenovo is a Chinese multinational technology company with headquarters in Beijing, China and Morrisville, North Carolina.

Yes, NASA awarded a contract to supply computers agency-wide to HP Enterprise Services, who started putting a Chinese owned company manufactured computer on every desk in NASA.

What could go wrong?

I was personally told by an IT support specialist that they had 25 computers taken out of the box and were loading the NASA Enterprise version of Windows onto the new computers. A security guy burst into the room and started yanking network lines out of the computers. Why would he do that?

One of the computers, fresh out of the box, automatically made a connection and began uploading information. To where? China.

Yes, our government does some really, REALLY stupid stuff.

Oh, how did HP Enterprise Servies come to win this contract? I was told, and I have not verified this, that their winning bid was 30% of, not lower but 30% OF, the next lowest bid. The NASA personnel that made the decision to award that contract for that kind of bid should have been fired.

I can personally attest to the completely inept start that HP had with the new contract. They had no idea that they were even responsible for computer setup and data migration from old computers to new computers. They were clueless.

Yes, our government does some really, REALLY stupid stuff.

Put Kapsersky Anti-Virus on US government computers? Yeah, we have idiots who would do stuff like that.

The actual issue with Kasperski is that it “sees” the NSA or CIA intrusions as a threat or a virus and does not cooperate with them.

The security state therefore deems them a “threat”.

” says that the breach that occurred in 2015 was first discovered by ISRAELI intelligence”

“However, (U.S.) officials did not ban the software at the time of this finding.”

I can help with that mystery. The breach was discovered by JEWS and the prior administration was not about to let them have the pleasure of one-upping us./

The vast majority of people would be shocked to find out what shenanigans are going on at the silicon level.

Innocent looking integrated circuit chips are having a party while most are clueless.

Data exfiltration, 2-way RF data transfer...and much more.

You can purchase tiny, off-the-shelf modules to place on your circuit boards that have two-way data connections to a commercial low-earth orbit satellite constellation...just imagine what the NSA/NRO have been up to.

There are VERY big ears 22,300 miles above the equator that are listening.
