Excerpted. Ivanka Trump, a senior adviser to President Trump and his eldest daughter, has long pushed for an expansion of the child tax credit. On Monday, she traveled to Pennsylvania to pitch the expansion....

Joining the senior adviser at the Capitol on Wednesday was Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), who have both pushed for an expansion of the tax credit in the past and have worked with Ivanka Trump on the matter.

The child tax credit isn’t the income transfer. That’s called the “Additional Child Tax Credit”. It sends a check from the government to those who pay little or no tax. It should be deleted.

The Child Tax credit should be expanded but it should stay non “refundable”.

Thank you for pointing out the difference. Having children and raising them to adulthood is very expensive and is one of the few things that actually benefits everyone.

The idea is not a transfer, it is that parents be able to keep some of their already earned money instead of giving it to the government.

Tax policies encourage some behavior while discouraging others; if this helps productive Americans breed it should be supported. Otherwise, watch the accelerated “browning of America” and accept it.

I was hoping that they would be pushing growing our own citizens rather than importing them....

Exactly. Perversely, this “child tax credit” will be paid for in spades by the very children who generate the credit for their parents. When our grandchildren are paying massive taxes just to pay interest on debt, or are living in a world where the US can’t borrow because we repudiated our debt, they will be cursing our generation and the ones who came before us for living on debt that we passed on to them.

Then we should elect General Kelly whose refugee numbers are between zero and one.

There is no more important “job” especially for those attempting to do it one one income.

We did it on one income without doubled tax credits. We call it the Ramen years. Also, many days of beans and cornbread.

Some of us get no child credits at all because of our income. How is that fair... I'd like to GET a child credit since I don't today.

My nomex undee's are on so here goes...

I get what she is doing, and I come from spending time on the tax side and seeing people trying to pull themselves up by their bootstraps in Detroit.

* Single mom wants to get off of Welfare, gets in an entry level nursing program, great place to start.
* Child care is the issue for her. Even for middle Class folks 16 years ago it was 12k a kid, I shutter to think what it is now.
* So she is pulling what maybe $15 an hr in her 1st Nursing gig, how much of that is going to day care.
* What we are missing is with the MAGA economy, IMHO more and more opportunities will develop ( especially vs GWB and Obama ) and this will be the incentive to dramatically shrink welfare / public assistance rolls ( Good for the federal balance sheet yet better for the soul, hmmm does anyone think of that?) and yes free a lot of people from uncle sugar and perhaps build bridges to voting blocks the GOP never really worked for not that they deserve it with many having an Never-Trumper attitude.
* This is potentially a rising tide ( the MAGA economy which I see going to a GDP of 6% or higher IMHO ) and a kick start for those who didn't think they could to get independent of Uncle Sugar and live with dignity, regardless how they got to kids out of wedlock etc.

Employed, a tax payer, shrinking assistance rolls, eventually they get their own HSA/DPC and 401k and their life is way better. People don't see the long ball PDJT is throwing and the help of Ivanka and Jared. I do and I stand alone because of it, and that is way ok, as the positive updrafts they are creating will continue. The question is are people willing to jump in the Sailplane and soar, or in this case, (I am referring the nattering naybobs on our side) even look to the sky and try to gage the weather and try to ascertain that maybe, just maybe lift is being created, and maybe others want to Soar in it....

I disagree. It's not the government's job to encourage people to breed.

I agree wholeheartedly. We had five and my wife and I decided she needed to be home, and to homeschool.

I was an E-5 and she was a psychiatric nurse in a local hospital. Guess who earned more? And guess who had to take on a lot of extra deployments and missions to keep bread on the table.

But we have five wonderful kids who are the envy of all the people who wanted more freedom and less hassle than children. But at least they have their toy poodles and cats. (sarc)

Your thinking is destroying the traditional family. Single women have access to oodles of child support and state funding. I know because I have seen single moms with salon nails, Starbucks and very expensive suvs while the dad gets no child visits and lives out of his car.
I will agree with a previous poster double it only if it becomes non refundable.
Otherwise you are digging the graves of dads and families.

We did it too. I always marveled that we had less stuff than “poor” people. We didn’t miss it.
