My company does quite a bit of business in Thailand.
There has been an endless stream of emails on how to behave if travelling to Thailand.
Born in Cambridge MA and eligible to be President of the US according to some around here.
Yeah. That post would get you jail time in Thailand unfortunately. The son is nothing like the father. Sad.

King Bhumibol was a great man, and arguably the best King on Earth during his reign. Truly noble in character, truly loved by his people, and truly historic in his impact.
We think of Reagan, Thatcher, and Pope John Paul as great anti-communists of the 20th Century but often overlook the pivotal role that King Bhumibol played in SouthEast Asia. He saved the Thai people from the horrors that befell Cambodia and Vietnam.
is that really the new king of Thailand?
“Yeah. That post would get you jail time in Thailand unfortunately.”
Definitely...

The loss of his father, and the heavy weight of the office, seem to have had a sobering effect on the new King. His dignity during the funeral engendered sympathy from the public (with whom he has long suffered from poor approval).
Filling the shoes of King Bhumibol would be a tall order for anyone, but let’s hope that the new King is blessed with growing ability and grace as he continues to mature.
“is that really the new king of Thailand?”
Yes, but I believe that was before he became King. He mostly lived outside the country as a bit of a playboy. Looks like some papparazzi caught a pic at an embarrassing moment.
I really hope that he rises to the occasion, because he does not have the cavernous reserve of love and respect that his father did. His father was a truly noble man.
You have this exactly right and I thank you for your kind comments about his late Majesty . I have spent a lot of time in Thailand and would commonly wear a US pin in my hat . Once I was approached by a Thai , whom seeing my pin , began to thank me , and his King , for saving his country from evil communism . I speak Thai , I understood his every heartfelt word . I have never forgotten that .
Very much so!
Yep. This pic was taken when they picked him up unannounced when the king died.
>> eligible to be President of the US <<
Well, yeah, but not after he died.
>> He saved the Thai people from the horrors that befell Cambodia and Vietnam <<
For sure.
Moreover, the relative stability of Thailand was a big factor in keeping the rest of Southeast Asia out of Communist hands. If Thailand had become embroiled in a communist-led insurgency, there’s no telling what other troubles would have infected the whole region.
Excluding foreign royalty was the reason the founders insisted on a natural born citizen, born here of citizen parents.

Yes sir . I consider the Thai King as a great unsung hero of the time and the era ( unsung outside of Thailand). Yes there were a lot of coups and that sort of thing , but as a Constitutional Monarch he was not empowered to affect the nuts and bolts of civilian / military governance . Until it came to a super crisis . Then his was about the only voice that the entire nation would listen to .
I am SO GLAD that the Thai Royal family did not suffered the fate of the Laotian and Cambodian Royal families . Those nations have suffered a deep identity crisis ever since the Communists murdered all those poor people . ps: people need to keep in mind what Communists do when they come into full power and control of formerly free , democratic or tradition based nations . It’s a slaughter house . Hear me , all you Bernie morons ...
” No foreign parent(s)”
You mean like Barack Insane Obama ?
