What people don’t get about spanking a child.
A child is not an mature being, yet. It does not have the maturity to think and reason through its desires or its or its reactions. A child cannot always be reasoned with. And yet, a child must be stopped from misbehaving and, whether it understands mist things yet or not it must learn their are consequences for disobeying.
When is it no longer necessary to give a kid a swat on the fanny? When they start to respond to reason and in doing so quit misbehaving because they are told to.
Do some parents take it too far? Obviously. That is no more reason for banning spanking than it is for banning guns because a few use them irresponsibly.
My mom quit giving me a swat when I blocked it once and told he she didn’t need to do that, just tell me what she wanted. I think she was shocked by my actions and by what I said.
Spare the rod and spoil the child is the old proverb. While it rings true in general, anger must never enter the punishment decision.
