I had the honor of covering President Trump during the 2016 primaries in April in Wisconsin. President Trump is obviously a very busy person. So I expected him to not pay attention to me as we set up the satellite shot, keep on his business and ignore me as I adjusted lights, miked him up, and generally fiddled with the broadcast gear.
What I got was a gentleman who, when he was dealing with you, focused like a laser on you and what you were doing. Is this okay? You need me to move over? What company do you work for? Have you beeen busy this political season? How are you doing with this job? Are you having a good day? Anything else you need from me? When you were done, he thanked you for your time and moved onto the next thing he focused like a laser on. It galvanized my vote for him. Im a broadcaster, part of a group that hasnt once treated him fairly. I was expecting him to be cautious and guarded. What I got was a friendly, outgoing person who wanted to know things about YOU. What I got is what we want our presidents to be.
What I got was a President.
Fantastic story.
Thanks.
Wow, what a great story!
Except when he asked you, “Anything else you need from me?”
I would have blurted out, “Yes! Win the November election!”
(And he did!)
A wonderful vignette. Thank you for sharing this.
