On October 11th, 2017 the Boy Scouts of America announced that girls will soon be allowed to become Cub Scouts and to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. The scouting board of directors voted to make this unforeseen change in the organization that has been for boys since its founding more than 100 years ago.
The mission statement of the Boy Scouts is to "prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law." The Boy Scouts as stated in its name has been a program ran under these ideals for "BOYS" over the past 100 plus years and should remain the same.
The Girl Scouts released a statement saying that the "Girl Scouts remains committed to and believes strongly in the importance of the all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment that Girl Scouts provide.” The Boy Scouts should have the same philosophy on this idea. But now instead of keeping the Boy Scouts for Boys, the program will not only lose its values that the organization has been built on but will also draw away participation of girls from their respective program of Girl Scouts. In the Girl Scouting program, girls are given the chance to earn their Gold award which is the equivalent of the Eagle Scout award for Boy Scouts. In both cases, only about five percent of the organization's members are able to achieve this honor.
The Boy Scouts already has co-ed programs under it that consist of Venturing, Sea Scouts, and Exploring. There is no need to make the Boy Scouts a co-ed program as well. Boys should be able to have a boys club and girls should be able to have a girls club.

I think the Boy Scouts should change their name. Change it to Youth Group USA or something which doesn’t reference males. It’s not intellectually honest to call them Boy Scouts if they are open to girls.
The Boy Scouts has caved to liberal social justice, first on homosexuals, now on girls. The only hope is to purge the leadership, but it is better to move on.

The BSA is nothing more than a large organization with $1.5 billion in assets that functions no differently than any other organization that has turned away from its core mission and hopped on the non-profit gravy train.
Give it a couple of years and they'll be letting dogs and cats join the BSA.
Do they really expect big numbers of girls to join and pay dues to be in the Boy Scouts?
Did they do the calculation, that they will gain “x” number of girls, balanced against losing “y” number of boys who will leave the boy scouts if it’s not a boy’s organization?
They aren’t being tactful?

What I do know is that the BSA had about 4.7 million members at its peak in 1970, and was down to about 2.2 million in 2016. That is an unmitigated disaster by any objective measure.

Instead of a petition, you might want to understand why this is happening. Your energy might be better spent helping.
As an aside, do you realize the the US is just about the only country in the world that segregates their scouting programs?
And yes, I am an Eagle Scout. Order of the Arrow. Pretty much, if they had it...I earned it.
As I saw my daughters peers go through a scout experience that included hardly any Dads because they were “too busy”, you could see the entire organization start to fall apart.
What is it as a % of the eligible population?
