RICHMOND — The man who rallied Southwest Virginia to vote for Donald Trump last year quit Republican Ed Gillespie’s gubernatorial campaign this week, offended by a personal snub and exasperated by the campaign’s highly cautious stance toward the president, according to three Republicans familiar with his decision.

Ridiculous list. There are countless losers on both sides of the aisle if you want to go back as far as Goldwater.

Christine O’Donnell only lost because she had to fight both democrats and Republican party leaders that sabotaged her.

Allen West was a winner who was gerrymandered out of his seat by GOP establishment in Florida.

George Allen was the establishment. Former Virginia governor and US senator.

Christine O'Donnell was sabotaged by her own party and by Obama IRS.

Four years after Goldwater defeat, GOP presidential era started with Nixon, who campaigned for Goldwater, elected twice, then Reagan who also campaigned for Goldwater, elected twice succeeded by his vice president with Watergate beneficiary Jimmy Carter being the four year exception to GOP presidential electoral dominance from 1968-1992.

Defeating a RINO is more important to me than winning in the general election. That’s how I see it anyway. Gillespie is King RINO. So I’ll be happy if Gillespie loses. 4 years and we can get non Establishment candidate in the primary.

Well, for the most part that’s true, but you know better.

Even Kay-Sick, as much as I hate him, INTERNALLY for OH has been pretty good, and certainly better than any D. Now, I hate his anti-Trumpism. But it sure didn’t hurt DT in the election, where Trump won OH by 9 -—this was almost 5 points MORE than what I predicted Trump would win OH by.

So I get the sentiment, but there are very, very few GOP govs who are worse than Ds. Gillespie is an idiot, but there are areas where he’d be better than Northam like in guns.

Gillespie belongs on your list, he failed to defeat Warner for Senate because he refused to use Warner’s vote for Rubio’s amnesty against him. Because Gillespie is for amnesty.

That is the only thing that would be different.
Probably enough to get me to do two stiff shots and hold my nose.

(I work part time in a gun store since retiring from GE)

I know, and the fool keeps trying to distance himself from Trump. These people are morons.

Every one of the NeverTrumpers sold their soul to the Cheap Labor Express.
They are fully committed to open borders/amnesty.
They simply don’t care that we are sick of the illegal alien inundation and have been actively thwarting all attempts by the citizens to stop it.
That is why Trump was elected and why they are fighting him so hard.
They do not intend to allow us to restore the rule of law and send their “friends” home.

“sometimes a RINO is the only way to keep a rat out of office - eg, Charlie Baker of MA....”

That thinking is the reason we have a GOP 90% full of RINOs/Establishment types.

I am dead set against ANY CHEAP LABOR express pushers. Even senator Cruz ticked me off when he gave a speech for 500% increase in H1-B visa’s.

What few people are aware is that our current immigration system is based on sponsorship by a relative. There is no skills, education level or wealth criteria for the relative. The result is we are importing ONE MILLION LEGAL immigrants EVERY YEAR who are low skill, low wealth, which is classic cheap labor express AND welfare express.

When a legal immigrant is approved, he or she can in turn sponsor all their relatives. I call it chain immigrants.

Virginia is a tough state for republicans right now. The northern part of the state is now just an extension of DC, and it has changed a lot in just the 12 years that I’ve lived in Fairfax County. We have President Bush to thank for that as much as anyone. The “drain the swamp” mantra, as much as I support it, doesn’t play well here. Unfortunately, nearly 750,000 voters live in Fairfax County, and it takes a lot of down state voters to overcome that. All that to say, Gillespie embracing Trump would not win him many more votes than he would already get in northern VA. The real question is if he’s losing votes in “real Virginia” for not embracing Trump.
