Senate GOP to Back Trump on Border Wall, Risking Shutdown Fight

Senate Republicans have drafted a Homeland Security spending bill that includes the full $1.6 billion President Donald Trump wants for a wall at the Mexican border, increasing the chances of a shutdown fight before current government funding runs out Dec. 8.

Bill author Senator John Boozman of Arkansas told reporters Tuesday the border wall funds would be resolved in a giant trillion-dollar spending bill in December, along with the issue of whether to continue work permits for immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children, known as Dreamers.

"That will be part of the negotiations," he said. "I think at the end of the day, the president is going in insist that the border funding be there."

Boozman said the spending bill would direct construction to the areas on the border where the most human trafficking occurs. A wall along the entire border would be debated later, he said.

Democrats last week called the year-end spending bill a chance to restore Obamacare insurance subsidies, and they’ve also discussed using it to protect Dreamers from deportation. Because Senate Democrats have the power to filibuster government funding bills, the disputes over immigration, the border wall and Obamacare make the possibility of a shutdown fight very real.

The Homeland Security spending bill was set to be voted on in committee this week, though that has been postponed because of the illness of Appropriations Chairman Thad Cochran of Mississippi.

The dems have 48 senators. Two of those will vote for the funding.

Should not be a problem even with Capt. Queeg, Collins and Murkowski.

Efn rinos.

Trump has (remarkable) political instincts. I think he will take this to the mat, and I think he will drag the GOP along with him, though there are (far) too many in the GOP who are sold-out globalists, who really root for China. (as do many in the Democratic party, as well) Trump has been VERY good with his political judgement thus far. I think he is maybe heading toward true greatness. He understands the importance of the wall. I think he does anyway. I sure hope he does.

We will get the $$$ for the wall or the government shuts down for good.

These Rinos are playing with fire right now since we want the "Wall" and no amnesty period.

1.6 billion is the monthly tax revenue of a state/province in a small country (like Canada). I can't believe these arseholes are being so cheap. They can help Bush pass 500 billion in bail outs to the investment banks without a heart beat, but we will fight over 1.6 billion?

That’s because the democrats had 60 senators and 60 votes for Obamacare. Republicans have only 52 senators. It makes a difference.

Well Sas, I guess it seems easy, but the Democrats had 60 senators at the time Obamacare passed. That is why it passed: otherwise, it would have fallen victim to a filibuster. It’s a little difficult to get 60 votes when there are only 52 republican senators.

The Border Wall will be funded by the Rat party and the GOP.

The Rats are running too scared these days which is unusual.

Agreed, never surrender an advantage in the hope that your opponent will return the favor in the future, because they will not.

They got 60 votes for Obamacare.”””

EVERY SINGLE VOTE WAS DEMOCRAT-—NO Republican votes.
