Trump issues warning to McCain after senator’s tough speech on ‘spurious nationalism’
Washington Times ^ | 10/17/17 | Ken Thomas

President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a warning shot after Republican Sen. John McCain questioned “half-baked, spurious nationalism” in America’s foreign policy.

Trump said in a radio interview with WMAL in Washington that “people have to be careful because at some point I fight back.” The president added “I’m being very, very nice but at some point I fight back and it won’t be pretty.”

McCain, a former Navy pilot who spent 5½ years in a Vietnam prisoner of war camp and is battling brain cancer, offered a simple response to Trump: “I have faced tougher adversaries.”

In Philadelphia on Monday night, the six-term Republican senator from Arizona received an award for a lifetime of service and sacrifice to the country. In addition to recalling his more than two decades of military service and his imprisonment during the war, McCain took a moment to go a step further than the night’s other speakers, who lamented what many described as a fractured political climate.

“To abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems,” he said, “is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history.”

Trump can’t say it, but I can.

John if you had any common sense you would realize this is more about the rule of law. Either we are a nation of laws or we are no different than 3rd world countries. Not that that matters much to you as you have painfully reminded us for decades now that you do not support the notion that we are a nation of laws.

Half baked nationalism? I would be happy with national self-interest. Patriotism. American values.

Hell, I might be happy with a little less 'hate America' out of the likes of John McCain.

There have been many people over the years that said that Nixon granted McCain a pardon for what he did while a prisoner of war in North Vietnam.

If that leaked McCain would be humiliated.

Bitter, dying, old, globalist. Make peace with God and stop embracing hate. (The epitome of we become what we constantly do.)

Wouldn’t Presidential Pardons public information? If true, it would be good to make a big deal of it and knock him down a peg or two.

McCain...offered a simple response to Trump: “I have faced tougher adversaries.”

He's the elected president belonging to the same party you belong to - he isn't supposed to be your adversary, you childish, petty old man. Grow up - it's possible, even for old men - and do what's right for your constituents.

What a hypocrite.

McCain is betting that the damaging optics of POTUS attacking a dying man will allow McCain to be as vindictive and damaging to America and to President Trump as possible with no fear of reprisal. I hope his crimes are made public and he is hounded from the Senate he has disgraced.

““I have faced tougher adversaries.””

Hopefully that brain tumor gets him soon. He is an anti-American nutcase stalling efforts in Washington.

“I have faced tougher adversaries.”

And McCain failed there too. Btw, why is someone with brain cancer still representing people as a U.S. Senator? That seems odd.
