I was first in the Philippines in 1987, visiting my wife's family. At the time, I was a USAF Senior NCO, in California. I wasn't much into politics at the time, and didn't" know much about Marcos. Her family seemed to be Marcos supporters, for whatever that was worth.
After retiring from California state service, I moved to Davao City. I never met Duterte in person, though I saw him from a distance. I do know a few others who did meet him in person. Living among the people gives me a little better idea how they think. My wife's family supports Duterte.

Most of my wife’s family here except for distant cousins. Marcos a part of their decision. Look at Manilla today and asked yourself where did those billions go.
