tinker3

Tinker Air Force Base is a major United States Air Force base, with tenant U.S. Navy and other Department of Defense missions, located geographically in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The base, originally known as Midwest Air Depot, is named in honor of Oklahoma native Major General Clarence L. Tinker, the first Native American Major General.

Tinker is the headquarters of the Air Force Materiel Command's (AFMC) Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center (OC-ALC), which is the worldwide manager for a wide range of aircraft, engines, missiles, software and avionics and accessories components. The host unit at Tinker is the 72d Air Base Wing (72 ABW) which provides services and support for the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center and its tenant organizations.

The Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex is the largest air logistics center in the Air Force Materiel Command. It provides depot maintenance, product support, services and supply chain management, and information support for 31 weapon systems, 10 commands, 93 Air Force bases and 46 foreign nations. It is the contracting office for the Air Force's Contract Field Teams program.

From the initial planned site of 960 acres in March 1941, Tinker's physical plant has become by standards a "mega-facility." Today, the base is made up of 5,500 acres with 460 buildings containing 19M+square feet of floor space, including 136 acres of indoor maintenance area and 2,254 acres of ramp space, all supported by the 72nd Air Base Wing.

The base is comparable to a city. The 72nd ABW provides essential support services for nearly 27,000 civilian and military assigned to the base and approximately 2,394 contractors, 18,000 dependents and more than 36,000 military retiree's and their family members in a six-county area.

The wing provides critical base functions including: security, fire protection, medical services, civil engineering, communications and supply, transportation and air field operations. The base also offers a variety of recreational and leisure activities including the Tinker Club, 18-hole golf course, picnic grounds, library, movie theater, swimming pool, fitness centers and a bowling alley.

I’ll bet they are! Carl Sagan was a nutjob, but I loved his space shows. They would have killed it in HD!

I’d better go.....I’m getting sleepy believe it or not! See ya tomorrow! Quiz night! If it works. sigh

Ooooooh, what a fun week that lies ahead. NOT! Training sessions and seminars. UGH!

Bet it’s a shock for her being up there now. It’s warm in FL and it’s winter up there. Payback of sorts for putting y’all through all that stuff. LOL!

I won’t be around Fri. night since I have to get up at 4:30 Sat. morning. Heading to Tupelo with Hubby and some others to bring back more military items for the museum close by. Not looking forward AT ALL to getting up so early but am dying to see that guy’s full collection.

I’ve saved many images over the years from the different projects’ web sites. Space has fascinated me since I was very young, thanks to my dad. My brother and sister never got into it but I ate it up.

Hope you have a good day tomorrow. See ya for the quiz, provided FR’s behaving tomorrow night.

Do you have to be a 20-year...

All you need is a DD214 which may be from a few months service. Some Viet Nam draftees had less than two years service but qualify.

I wondered if that wasn’t a really long time to be on the job. LOL! Maybe around-the-world long?

Enjoy the four DAYS! :)

Thanks for that information! If he can find his DD214 after all this time, I bookmarked the site so he can sign up if he wants to.
