Permitting police to use drones with deadly weapons [Did LVMPD use illegal drone?]

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Connecticut lawmakers are considering whether the state should become the first in the country to allow police to use drones outfitted with deadly weapons, a proposal immediately met with concern by civil rights and civil liberties advocates.

The bill would ban the use of weaponized drones, but exempt police. Details on how law enforcement could use drones with weapons would be spelled out in rules to be developed by the state Police Officer Standards and Training Council. Officers also would have to receive training before being allowed to use drones with weapons.

North Dakota is the only state that allows police to use weaponized drones, but limits the use to “less lethal” weapons, including stun guns, rubber bullets and tear gas.

Five states - Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Vermont and Wisconsin - prohibit anyone from using a weaponized drone, while Maine and Virginia ban police from using armed drones, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Several other states have restricted drone use in general.

Did the LVMPD or a federal agency use an illegal weaponized drone to kill Stephen Paddock?

This would explain a lot.

A drone with a remotely-controlled rifle would have been the perfect tool to end a situation of a sniper leaning out a hotel room window shooting people.

The drone could quietly fly up close to the shooter, give a clear camera view of exactly where he is and shoot from relatively close range, not endangering people in other rooms.

It would answer some of the mysteries around this case:

1. How did police know the shooter had stopped firing? They took their time rushing their room, saying they were confident there was no longer an active shooter situation. How did they know Paddock was not just reloading or otherwise getting ready to dump another massive barrage of bullets on people below?

If they knew the shooter had been shot by their drone, that would explain the lack of urgency. Also, the drone could see close up through the windows and give a preview to the police doing the SWAT breaching what is in there, to the extent not blocked by the curtains.

2. At the end of the shooting, why the TWO single shots ten seconds apart? Did Paddock shoot himself once, and then, just to make sure he was good and dead, shot himself again ten seconds later?

If a drone took the two shots, that would make sense. Perhaps they took one shot, Paddock fell, and then the drone maneuvered some and took another shot ten seconds later.

3. Why did the girl at the bus stop say "there's glass falling from Mandalay Bay" four seconds after the first of the two shots? See at 3:25 and 3:29.

https://youtu.be/x96Kem0ZYag?t=202

Perhaps the first drone shot passed through a part of the window that still had glass or, more likely, Paddock was shot by the drone, fell partly onto the window knocking more glass out which fell to the ground, and staggered back into the room, and the drone re-positioned itself for ten seconds to take another shot at him?

4. Why did Paddock end the shooting when he had so much ammunition left?

Obviously, if police or a federal agency had used a test drone equipped with a firearm that was illegal to deploy, they would be praising themselves as they are doing for ending it so quickly, but nevertheless be murky on the details as they are doing.

here's a powerful police drone in Texas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=9VoaejwyNmA

$21,000 new police drone in Phoenix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=Plxn-8THCkk

If police had a lethal drone they had in development and testing, I wouldn't blame them for illegally deploying it here to save many lives.

Even if they flew one in the window with a flash-bang, he would have been in no condition to keep firing.

Now if they used a real grenade.....

Seriously. If there was a drone of any kind involved in taking this guy down the cops would have been congratulating themselves publicly from the very first day.

Not if it was illegal. They would be congratulating themselves as we see them doing, but not saying exactly how they did it.

I don’t want the police to have lethal drones.

Absolutely not.

Police are already using these.  A drone is the aerial version.

I guess what I’m saying is, I don’t agree that your suggestion is in any way rational.

Speaking of "rational" would you care to give your reasoning as to why this is beyond the realm of possibility?

Here’s footage of a Las Vegas police drone from 3 1/2 years ago:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WS0XEpz9sug

If police had time to get their SWAT gear on scene, explosives, bullet shields, etc., wouldn’t they have had time to get an ordinary camera drone up and flying?

Yet we have heard nothing from LVMPD as to whether they had a drone up and taking a look at the windows where the shooting occurred.

Do I think it’s possible that LVPD covertly deployed a killer drone, which no one saw, and of which there is no video record, succeeded in ending a major crime, and that everybody in the police force is either unaware of the fact, or is actively involved in concealing it?

Well, “anything’s possible” I suppose.

But like I said. We disagree as to whether giving serious consideration to this “possibility” is rational.

It doesn’t mean we can’t be friends.

The police are having sex with that green tracked thing instead of the girl?

The world seems a little sadder now.

"Which no one saw" - Unless they had lights on the drone turned on, it's not clear why it would be obvious to see it.

"of which there is no video record" - again, unless they were using lights on the drone, it's not clear why it would show up in videos. There is no close video shot of that part of the MB building during that time. Various camera phones jerking around, panning here and there or viewing from a distance.

"everybody in the police force is either unaware of the fact, or is actively involved in concealing it"

It's unlikely they would tell "everyone" on the police force that they used a drone illegally. It would be limited to the small number of people operating the drone, the SWAT commander and the top level of LVMPD.

sniper leaning out a hotel room window shooting people.

But, but, but,,,,, Der "authorities" tell us he was firing from within the room. Been pointed out that the number of shell casings visible in the room vs. the claimed volume of fire does not compute with "leaning out a hotel room window".

"of which there is no video record" -

It is interesting to note that the videos were wiped from every cell phone the police confiscated for evidence.
