TIPS FOR THE PITS
We have all been there....Blue Monday. Nothing is more miserable than feeling depressed. Depression has been, and continues to be, the world's #1 public health problem. All of us are susceptible to depression. It all begins with the blues, which come and go like the common cold. The "Poor Me" syndrome hits us and drags us to the pits of depression.
What are the signs of depression? Dragging through the day, wondering how we will get through it; getting bogged down at the least little obstacle; thinking negatively about everything; all we see are pessimism and gloom. It's looking at life and seeing only emptiness, hopelessness, and no way out.
But friend, there is hope! Let me suggest tried and proven help from Scripture. These are "Tips for the Pits".
1....We must first check our thinking. Often we feel the way we think. We must live by our convictions, not by our feelings. God can work even our present situation into a positive good for us. "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Positive belief always destroys negative, depressive doubts.
2....You can't keep any feelings from coming to you, but you can determine how you will manage them. Do not offer bad feelings a lounge chair. Instead, allow God to lift and cleanse your mind to a higher, more positive level.
3....No mood can be your master. Allow God to be your only Lord. As your mind is fixed on God, you will find your strength renewed. You can keep yourself "encouraged in the Lord". You are important to others. You are needed. Your life matters and has importance. Jesus believed it enough to die for YOU!
4....Decide to be a source of encouragement to someone else. The written Word of God tells us, "Anxious hearts are very heavy, but a word of encouragement does wonders". "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths." Watch what happens to your depression when you encourage someone else!
Prayer: Holy God, what power is available in a few simple words of encouragement. Remind me to be an encourager in the lives of others for the good of both of us. Amen

I should have kept my mouth shut about the snow. We poured some cement today and took a break for lunch. After lunch went outside to a raging blizzard. It had turned cold and windy. They changed the forecast after it happened. Must be global warming.

Creation Care
October 15, 2017
The highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth he has given to mankind.
Psalm 115:16
The big browns are spawning in the Owyhee Riverbrown trout beginning their fall nesting ritual. You can see them excavating their nests in the gravelly shallows.
Wise fishermen know that fish are spawning and try not to disturb them. They avoid walking on gravel bars where they might trample the eggs, or wading upstream from the nests where they might dislodge debris that can smother them. And they dont fish for these trout, though its tempting to do so as they rest near their nests.
These precautions are part of an ethic that governs responsible fishing. But there is a deeper and a better cause.
The Scriptures stress the fact that God has given us the earth (Gen. 1:2830). It is ours to use, but we must use it as those who love it.
I muse on the work of Gods hands: a partridge calling across a canyon, a bull elk bugling up a fight, a herd of antelope far off in the distance, a brook trout and its kaleidoscopic rose moles, a mother otter playing in a stream with her pupsI love all these things, for they have been given to me for my delight, out of my Fathers great love.
And what I love, I protect.
Heavenly Father, You have put us here to enjoy and ponder Your marvelous creation. May everything You have made remind us of Your goodness, love, and care.
Share one of your favorite photos of God's creation on Facebook.com/ourdailybread.
Care for creation honors the Creator.
God gave specific instructions on how the Israelites should treat the land He had given them (Ex. 23:1011; Lev. 25:17). Just as His people were commanded to rest every seventh day, [their] land [was] to have a year of rest (Lev. 25:5). For six years you are to sow your fields and harvest the crops, but during the seventh year let the land lie unplowed and unused (Ex. 23:1011). Modern scientists have supported the practice of periodically letting land lay fallow, allowing the lands nutrients to be replenished and productivity rejuvenated.
Our wise Creator cares for those He created as well as the earth He has given us. How can we be better stewards of Gods creation?

"I VOW TO THEE, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

They say the good things are with waiting for and that seems to be the case with this job. Something to do a few days a week with plenty of time to do whatever suits your fancy.
It was a good day here. Took Baby to a cruise-in this morning and had a nice few hours there. Got a few things done around the house after getting home and am now finishing a late supper.
Today was the last summer-like day for a while. A cold front comes through tomorrow and we’ll finally have real fall temps. Days will be ok but nights are gonna be too cool for comfort.
