Yes, it is bad journalism, but what you are missing is that there was (allegedly) a 6 minute delay between the time Campos was shot and when the gunman started firing out of the window.
So, if this unnamed source is correct, and if there really was a 6 minute delay, and if Mandalay Bay called the police the very instant the gunman started shooting out of the window, then it took the hotel 6 minutes to call the police after one of their security guards got shot.
Read a few more words. The Mandalay Bay did not call immediately when the 200 shots were (supposedly) fired down the hallway. They called police when the shooter began shooting OUTSIDE into the crowd.
I’m sure they called their own security first, to see what was going on. Somebody said upthread 200 shots were supposedly fired inside the hotel at that point. That sounds like an awful lot to shoot at one maintenance man who survived. It wasn’t until he opened up outside that they realized they had some gawdawful shite on their hands and call a po-lice.
Video in a business is frequently of questionable utility. So you saw the doer do the crime. You couldn’t pick them out of a line up. They’re gone. And it sets up an expectation in the customers that you would take action, or be able to catch thieves and so forth.
I’ve heard the “200 shots down the hallway” claim before but I haven’t seen anything to suggest that we know for certain he shot that many rounds down the hallway.
The maintenance man described the fire as “relentless” but I think I’d feel 30 rounds down a hallways was pretty relentless, too.
The pictures of the door don’t seem to show that 200 rounds went through it. Not sure if he opened the door to fire at Campos or not.
I do find the reports that Campos is being guarded by a private security firm very curious. Who is paying for that?

If that radio call had been a 911 call instead and just the words “Mandalay Bay” had been added, then police would likely have had both better and faster information than they received.
I truly believe that employees need to be better trained to recognize when matters are too serious to waste time with internal communication (employee to employee/supervisor) and that they need to go directly to the police.
If they guy had just been a guest with his cell phone, that call probably would have happened.
Sounds like Mandalay Bay operates like the Continental. They simply called the room on the 32'nd floor with a noise complaint and wanted to know if the occupant wished to make dinner reservations and for how many? What other establishment would allow 200 rounds to decorate the hallways and wound some of the staff without a call for outside help? Those gold coins buy a lot of silence.

A man that has worked security at three major Las Vegas casino/hotels has been posting about this on another site. He said the absolute focus of security in casinos is money, not people. He said the people come and go, and are not a focus of protection- that it is always about the money, how to defend the money.
So as your uncle said the hotel management is worried about the PR damage control- which I am sure he is 100% right about that. In Las Vegas the focus is the money and PR. Meaning security/protection of guests, employees, or other people that may be there is no higher than third on the list of their concerns.

According to my friends who have worked in big hotels that is not sarcasm.
They draw the line at felonies but anything else, especially for a wealthy repeat guest, is on the table.
The absence of a released 911 call from the hotel adds credibility. There are many other released 911 calls.
More evidence that this was an FBI sting. If they knew that the Feds were already on the 32nd floor, why call the cops?

I think the reason for the delay was that somebody was calling in active shooter reports in half a dozen hotels up and down the strip. When the first calls came in from the event cops by the Mandalay, the cops were allegedly at the Bellagio.(although I don’t trust the Bellagio videos because they did have a ‘three pigs’ jewelry store shootout at the Bellagio not that long ago and you know how utubers are)
Somebody needs to ask the Chief about the shooter calls - to verify they happened and to add them to the timeline
