I remember those days too, used to drive through Cleveland late at night and the sky was lit up by furnaces from countless foundries & steel mills, etc.
Yes, pumping out a lot of smoke, but producing US heavy metal and a lot of good paying jobs.

Now the skies are blue & waters clean, but...
Today the metal & jobs are in China or elsewhere and our guys flip burgers or greet you at Wal-Mart.
You know, if there was a politician who figured out how to bring those jobs back, I'd vote for him.

Indeed, leaving it to China to produce this crap is a sure recipe for ecological disasters. Bottom line is that a sea of many small fishes is not the bigger pollution foot print but a Soviet style Leviathan state in the sea without limits will always be corrupt, poaching and polluting with its huge footprint.
