Just like any other day, Dr. Jessica Sevilla Pedraza went to work at the hospital that morning, came home for a quick lunch and then left again. The plan was to see more patients, hit the gym and be back in time for her usual dinner with dad before he went to his night-shift job.
Instead, a hospital co-worker showed up at the family’s door in the evening. She said a man had come in with a bullet wound in his leg and told doctors he had been with Sevilla when gunmen intercepted them, shot him and took off with the doctor in her own car. “Ma’am,” the woman told Sevilla’s mother, Juana Pedraza, “it’s my duty to tell you that we cannot locate your daughter.”
Two days later, Pedraza identified 29-year-old Jessica’s body at the morgue. She had been shot in the head and decapitated, and the skin had been flayed from her skull. “I can’t understand why,” Pedraza said. “Why so much fury? Why so much hate?”
Sevilla’s gruesome death was part of a wave of killings of women plaguing the sprawling State of Mexico, which is the country’s most populous with 16 million residents and surrounds the capital on three sides. The mounting crisis of femicides — murders of women where the motive is directly related to gender — prompted the federal government to issue a gender violence alert in 2015, the first for any Mexican state.
Sometimes the deaths are caused by domestic abuse. Other killings appear to be opportunistic, by strangers. Often the bodies are mutilated and dumped in a public place — which many read as a message to other women: There is no safe place, time of day or activity. …

Because Mexico has no death penalty, the worst they can do to him is give him a life sentence. We are close to having no death penalty, because of the 2-decade long wait for the needle, but it still exists. Meanwhile, Mexico is working to export its system of justice to the US. In Alabama, a Mexican who beat and stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death is now serving a 14-year term (if he gets parole) instead of being on Death Row, thanks to Mexican government funding for his legal defense.
I suggest that NOW send an investigating team down there right now, made up of present and former presidents.

Throw in a few plutocratic billionaires, university leftist who dream of reconquering the lost territories to the north, a 25% admixture of Pentecostals in a traditionally Catholic country that The Church has largely abandoned, a drug war that won't end as long as there is a market to the north and a lot of people who dream of just getting the hell out and you have a thoroughly dysfunctional society.

It is not hate. It is off-hand murder and involves some pretty serious perversion. Perversion is not hate. It’s effects can be worse than the effects of hate. Hate is the catch-all word used to denigrate people of the unapproved political class and there is nothing more to the word than that now. It is usually paired with “racist” and is just as meaningless. One cannot use either word in a rational discussion because use of those words is a political accusation when engaged in discussion with the sort of person who would dispute about them.
Hispanic is a misnomer. They are descendants of native tribes who speak Spanish.
The history of the Church in Mexico is more complicated than that; they’ve had anti-clerical governments for over a century. The leftists view the Church as paired with wealthy elites to suppress the peons.
