Cowboys coaches, players meet over Jerry Jones' anthem comments

In a meeting with coaches, Dallas Cowboys players were told to bring their concerns about comments made by Jerry Jones regarding his stance on the national anthem to the owner and general manager, according to a source.

NFL Network was the first to report the meeting.

Since Sunday, Jones has been outspoken regarding his stance that players must "not disrespect the flag" and that they must stand for the anthem or they will be benched.

Speaking on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday, Jones said the players could express themselves prior to the national anthem in a similar manner to how the team handled things before their Sept. 25 game at the Arizona Cardinals.

Before the anthem of that game, players stood arm in arm with Jones, other front office executives, coaches and staff and took a knee. During the anthem, they stood arm in arm.

In the two games since, the Cowboys have stood on the sideline as normal.

"If there's anything that is disrespectful to the flag, then we will not play," Jones said after Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers. "Understand? We will not ... if we are disrespecting the flag, then we will not play. Period."

Jones reiterated the stance on numerous occasions since. A local labor union has filed a complaint to the National Labor Relations Board against the Cowboys saying Jones' threats prevent allowable, "concerted activity" at work. The team and the NFL declined comment on the filing.

Players returned to the practice field Wednesday for the first time since the Packers game and are scheduled to meet with the media in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin, the team's NFLPA representative, didn't want to talk much about Jones or potentially being required to stand for the anthem.

He did say, however, that when the NFLPA responds to this, the message will be clear.

"The message will be put out," Quin said. "The message, it will be out. Clearly."

ESPN Lions reporter Michael Rothstein contributed to this report.

Jerry Jones said he wants players to stand. Now coaches and players are having a meeting. Not sure what there is to discuss.

I don’t remember any of the places I’ve worked having meetings about which of the owner’s policies we were going to follow and which we were going to disregard. Do you?

It would amuse me if they changed their mind. Again.
I guess this is really, really hard.

yeah STFU

I wanted to call a guy in my graphics dept a ####ing fruit for doing a ballet dance across the room while singing “Dancing Queen” but the investment bank had rules so I couldn’t.

I wanted to curse at my desk when I was mad about something but I couldn’t.

Freedom of Speech is not universal. And I’m not even sure how the players connected their disgusting display to freedom of speech.

It's all about virtue-signaling and getting a dig in against President Trump.

It's a losing proposition but they haven't figured it out yet.

The line has been drawn in the sand. If JJ backs down its over. If he stands his ground, the nfl players union will protest. In either case you’re going to see the league tear itself apart due to their initial failure to address klupenut’ts actions.

This is easy, it all boils down to the golden rule: he who has the gold, makes the rules.

Who’s name is at the bottom of your check? Hhhuuuhhh, its Jerry Jones...guess what, he has the gold, he makes the rules.

Now put your $hit on and go play F’n football nimrod!!!

You would literally be shocked at how many supposedly “educated” individuals, think the First Amendment applies to private enterprise. I literally had to explain to a coworker for 20 minutes, that the Amendment only protects you against punitive action by the state.

Those usually result in some people no longer employed.

It is. They're having to choose between the destruction of their business and being called RAAAAAACISTS.

I wonder if Jerry Jones and other owners can have replacement players in the tunnel waiting, perhaps not with jerseys on. If players on the field decide to quit the team, replacements are ready-just put on the jerseys, file some paperwork, and play-ball.

This is what you get when 70% of the players are blacks, who are also easily manipulated by the leftist news media and the Rats.

“It is. They’re having to choose between the destruction of their business and being called RAAAAAACISTS.”

That’s exactly it, plus they’re afraid of their out-of-control racist thug employees to whom they’ve given so much, but the thug millionaires still want more!
