The Explorer Scouts are co-ed, and have been since I was an Explorer Scout at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory many decades ago. It is a great program I was proud to be a part of. I was even post Chairman for one term.

I had forgotten that but my post never had a girl when I was a member. We specialized in winter camping and canoeing. Our last outing after high school was a week of canoeing on the lakes of the Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada. Rowing a canoe in one to two foot lake swells in a driving rain was a trip and a half. One of the guys cut his foot open with an ax and a couple of our HS track team members went decathlon style on the logging trails to the nearest Mountie station. Several hours later we got to watch as an RCMP Aircraft landed on the lake to airlift him to the hospital.
