I have (yet another) dumb question.
Do modern designers ever consider ships without helicopter hangers? Surely flying them off the ship adds costs for fuel, parts and personnel.
Why not use that aft deck and hanger space for additional VLS cells?
Helicopters are a key ASW asset. They need more helos, not less.
