Fox News is back on top in the cable news wars. Two weeks ago, Fox News began to introduce its new prime time schedule and the shift in programming, which will be complete on October 30 when Laura Ingraham and Shannon Bream launch their new shows. Now it has regained its previous position as the #1 cable news channel.
The #1 prime time show in recent months, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow at 9 P.M. E.T., has on most nights since September 25 been relegated to second – sometimes a distant second – place by Sean Hannity. Last week, for example, with overall cable news ratings pumped up by breaking news coverage of the Las Vegas shootings, Hannity handily won the week against his competition on MSNBC and CNN. Not only that, as TVNewser reported on October 10:
Sean Hannity had the No. 1 program of the week across all of cable news, beating rival Rachel Maddow and fellow Fox Newser Tucker Carlson both in total viewers and in the all-important [age] 25-54 demo.
Sean Hannity
In times past, CNN, banking on its once-unchallenged reputation for being the original, the oldest, and the only cable news channel for its first 16 years (1980-’96), often rose to the top during times of major breaking news, but recently it has been coming in third to the other two news channels, breaking news events notwithstanding.
On October 3, in an analysis of the first week of Fox News’ new schedule, A. J. Katz wrote at TV Newser:

Put Shep Smith at the top of the list to get rid of.
*************
Shep dramatizes and sensationalizes every story. He’s more about commentary than coverage. Get rid of him.
“GET RID OF little Shep girly!!!”
wellll. . . .
“GET RID OF little lefty Trump-hating smug Shep girly!!!”
Better?
Black conservative? That would be great. Heck, even Dave Chappelle would be an improvement!
How about Tommy Sotomayor?
Put Shep Smith at the top of the list to get rid of.
Want to boost FOX's ratings? Have Schlepper and Whoraldo shoot each other on live TV.
Who was the first guest? Bill O’Reilly!
Their new slogan needs to be:
We ARE Balance!
Agreed.
Harris Faulkner would be a vast improvement.
Herman Cain.
FOXNews needs - at minimum - needs TWO conservative news anchors... Every ‘news’ anchors at FOX is a democrat... from Chris Wallace on down...
OK scratch Herman Cain.
Fox has recovered, I think, because the corporates there are perceptive enough to understand that their move to become CNN2 was going to bankrupt Fox News. They ceased trying to strangle themselves. Now they are trying to slip in a leftist here and there without any more public noisy dumping of Conservatives. The new guys can see that the Right side is what keeps Fox News solvent.
Rachel MadCow took the #1 position the night she claimed to have Trump’s tax returns.
The claim was about 96% hype, 4% substance.
Madcow kept the top spot for a while. Now grownup, mature thinking has returned...people realize MadCow is even fluffier than Hannity, and Fox is #1 again.
Laura’s very tough and competent, Shannon’s a cutie who handles her role very nicely; what’s not to like?
So, in your opinion, they should stop with the opposing views? Then how do those views get countered?
I really like Greg Gutfeld and The Five.
Attractive, smart and competent. Yep, put her on and send the Shepster over to PMSNBC.
Liberace and Shep both played/play the same instrument.
A skin flute?
The FNC Prime Time lineup is pretty darn good with Martha, Tucker, Sean & Brian Gilmeade (Fox & Friends). When Laura blooms at 10:00 PM on October 30th, MSNBC & CNN die!!! Trumpie wins again!!!
