It’s hard to get a good read on the acting industry.

Yes, the casting couch is a real thing, but on the other hand, you have a host of starlets that “augment” their incomes by playing escort to rich men all over the world.

Many of the so-called film festivals are designed to provide cover for celebrities so they can spend time on multi-million dollar yachts in Europe. Plus, the young ladies appear to be quite willing to rent out their companionship.

In that environment, it’s difficult to know what’s really going on.

To my Dad's generation, this is not news. He recognized actors as the lowest form of scum. They allow themselves to be preyed upon by producers and directors in the hope of a few crumbs thrown their way. They allow themselves to be humiliated and like it. They then pass it along to the youngsters coming after them.

Unless you’ve worked in Hollywood, you don’t really understand the culture of fear. There are thousands of eager, willing applicants for every job. Character is tested daily. Don’t have a huge amount of experience in other fields, so I can’t speak with authority on other competitive professional cultures, but I know showbiz pretty well.
